Why We Make New Year's Resolutions

As we bring in the new year and think about what we would like to accomplish in 2015, some of us participate in the tradition of making New Year's resolutions. The THERAPY-IV would like to look at where the tradition of making New Year's resolutions comes from.

We know that all through history, all over the world, there have always been traditions that celebrate the beginning of a new year or season with a specific focus on renewal and rebirth. Though, the idea of having new year's resolutions to make improvements in your life, may be a mostly American tradition.

According to sociologist, Isidor Thorner, in Oxford Journal in 1951, the tradition of making new year's resolutions started with Protestantism and the British background of the country. According to Thorner's today's New Year's resolutions are a more relaxed version of what they originated with the Protestants.

Thorne also found that countries that are English Speaking with a Protestant background like Australia, England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and South Africa had traditions of making New Year's Resolutions.

When the tradition of New Year's resolutions began, people's resolutions were more spiritual and new year's eve most likely consisted of a service to welcome in the new year. Nowadays, instead of spiritual type resolutions, we are more likely to make resolutions have to do with getting healthier. It seems that even in our recent past, in the 1940s in this country, resolutions were a bit more spiritual, with a top resolution being to "improve my disposition, be more understanding, control my temper," while those polled last year said that their top resolutions were about losing weight.

As we see, times have changed and we at The THERAPY-IV, offering Miami Deep Sea Fishing, hope that this new year brings healthy choices as well as a great deposition. To learn more about Miami Beach Deep Sea Fishing, contact us at (305)945-1578 or info@therapy4.com.

How to Survive and Enjoy Being Home for the Holidays

At The THERAPY-IV, we know that the holidays can be a busy and often stressful affair, especially if you are visiting family from out of town. That is why we wanted to offer a few suggestions on how to survive and enjoy coming home for the holidays.

One great idea is to prepare for coming home for the holidays, since you know better than anyone the situations that repeat themselves around the dinner table at home. For instance, if you know the person mainly in charge of the preparation of the food is not the best cook, you can consider bringing your own dish of something you know everyone will enjoy. Plus, if you know that there are certain topics that usually cause an uprising around your family, it may also be a good idea to let everyone know that there is a ban on those topics, for a fun and peaceful time.

It's also important to remember that no matter how much you prepare, unexpected topics and things come up and the best thing you can do in these situations is to have a sense of humor in these times and choosing to see the good, which just feels better than the alternative.

Also, as the year comes to an end this is an especially popular time for people to compare their lives to where they were last holiday season and where they think they should be in their lives and you wouldn't be alone in feeling this as everyone is disappointed with some areas of their lives. Though, it is great to take the opportunity of the end of the year to start doing the things that are important to you or stop placing a lot of self judgement. Also, when you share with others at home, it's great to listen and enjoy the time spent and focus on that.

We hope that we have given you some great ideas on how to survive and enjoy going home for the holidays. With the weather in South Florida being lovely this time of year, why not consider a Miami Deep Sea Fishing trip with friends and family for the holidays? A Warm Thank You to the THERAPY-IV from a Military Hero

The THERAPY-IV loves getting feedback from our customers, especially the many armed forces personnel that we regularly service. That is why we were thrilled to receive a beautifully written letter by Paul Phillips, Colonel in the U.S. Army Medical Corps.  Col. Phillips and his family were in Miami for a Christmas family get together, which was long overdue due to a summer deployment to Afghanistan with his Army medical unit. One of our charter boats had the honor of hosting this unforgettable experience.

As a surgeon, Col. Philips risks his life caring for wounded soldiers in the front lines, often treating life-threatening wounds. His service to his country is deeply admirable, and we were happy to pay our respects and show our gratitude by providing the Miami Deep Sea Fishing imaginable.

In his own words, "We were fortunate to land several good sized Kings and some others, but it was topped off by my oldest landing a 90 inch sailfish. By far the largest fish that any of us had ever taken. What a thrill to see and experience their joy in the simple pleasures of bringing in their fish into the boat."  We were deeply moved by this experience. Needless to say, The THERAPY-IV is proud to have given a memorable fishing adventure to Paul and his loved ones. We are honored to serve the men and women who dedicate their lives to our country.

If you would like to enjoy our award-winning Miami Beach Deep Sea Fishing services, please contact (305) 945-1578 or info@therapy4.com

The Origins of the word Chanukah

As Chanukah begins, we at THERAPY-IV would like to look at the meaning of the actual word Chanukah and the origin of the most well-known Jewish holiday.

The name Chanukah was given to remember how Jewish fighters rested from battling against Syrian-Greeks on the 25th of Kislev. The Hebrew word "chein" means grace, so the the word Chanukah could be made to show that the Jewish warriors experienced grace on the 25th of Kislev.

This battle was during the 2nd century BCE and it was a victory of a small, and largely outnumbered army of Jewish warriors that were known as Maccabees, they battled with a powerful Greek army that was occupying the Holy Land. This rebellion was a reaction to the attempt of the Greeks to force a Hellenistic lifestyle on the Jewish residents of Israel.

During this time, the kindling of a seven branched Menorah was a very crucial part of the daily services in the Holy Temple. So while the Maccabees were able to liberate the Temple from the Greeks, they found olive oil that was enough to fuel the Menorah. Though it was only enough to light the Menorah for one day and it would take eight days to produce new pure oil, but surprisingly the oil burned for eight days and nights.

We at The THERAPY-IV wish you a happy Chanukah and happy holidays. If you would like information on Miami Deep Sea Fishing, you can contact us at 305-945-1578. We specialize on Miami Beach Deep Sea Fishing as we charter boats offering many amenities and accommodations with an experienced crew that will support you every step of the way to offer you an unforgettably fun experience out at sea. Contact us for a great fishing experience, particularly to take advantage of this great Miami weather at this time of year.

Wintertime Deep Sea Fishing in Miami Beach Before Christmas!

South Florida is known to have great weather all year around, but the weather during the winter season is particularly ideal for Miami Deep Sea Fishing as the marine life is much more plentiful than any other time during the year. Deep sea fishing is a particularly great idea for an activity right before Christmas time.

As deep sea fishing enthusiasts know, many types of baitfish, like sardines and mullet start migrating in huge numbers through the South Florida area. Following the fish will be a variety of different predators that make for great catches, these include kingfishes, mackerel, dolphin (mahi mahi), tunas, bonitas, wahoos, sailfish, and even sharks.

During this season, the variety of possible catches offers something for everyone at every level, whether it is an easy catch, a large catch or one rare catch. Also, during this great season, no matter what your skill level is, if you chose to charter a boat with Therapy-IV, the team at Therapy-IV will be with you and support you along the way.

With Therapy-IV, you will be equipped with a state of the art Miami Deep Sea Charter Fishing Boat which will be filled with the latest gear and equipment for any type of catch. Equipment includes large outriggers for spacing baits apart, a large flying bridge with a captain's chair and two fighting chairs. The cockpit is equipped with four fighting chairs, two live bait tanks, and a giant transform door, great for big catches.

You can also enjoy great amenities like an air conditioned lounge, a bar, an indoor theater with stereo and satellite radio, a bathroom and more. Our boats and services offer an exclusive, top notch experience, there is no wonder why Therapy-IV has been Miami Beach's number one activity on TripAdvisor for several years.

THERAPY-IV Remembers Pearl Harbor Day

Today, Pearl Harbor is the topic of many documentaries, dramatic productions, books and articles; and his Sunday, marks the anniversary of this historic event with cities all over the country remembering and honoring the heroes of that historic day.

December 7, 1941 marked the beginning of World War II for the United States and became a landmark period in U.S. history. Pearl Harbor, located on the Island of O'ahu, Hawaii (at the time a territory of the U.S.), was attacked by the Japanese Imperial Navy at 8 a.m., on a Sunday morning, December 7, 1941.

This was a surprise attack that was orchestrated by the Japanese Admiral, Isoroku Yamamoto with 353 Japanese aircraft that was led by Commander Mitsuo Fuchida. This attack started with six aircraft carriers and was followed by 24 supporting vessels. Also, a group of submarines was prepared to sink American warships that escaped the Japanese carrier attack. The reason for the attack was to disable U.S. naval in the Pacific so that Japan could take over this land.

This attack has become part of the consciousness of Americans more intensely than any other single event. During World War II, Pearl Harbor was a big focus point with posters, popular songs and other media. Plus, regular memorial services were held and flags from the Capitol and White House were flown over fallen enemy capital cities.

We at Therapy IV, specializing in Miami Deep Sea Fishing, remember and pay our respects to this very difficult time in our history and we believe that it is important to see where we've been and where we are going. There were many who demonstrated their heroism on this day and it's great to take the time to honor them.

Captain Stan is Excited for Art Basel!

South Florida is about to get even more exciting this week during Art Basel, officially starting December 4-7 and it seems everyone is getting in on the action of this ever evolving art filled week.

The main event, Art Basel Miami Beach in the Miami Beach Convention Center, is bigger than ever this year. The annual art fair will feature 267 of the best galleries from around the world selected from 31 countries that represent North America, Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia with up to 90 galleries from New York that will showcase the work of over 2,000 artists.

This year, 60,000 visitors are expected to arrive for Art Basel and 1,500 journalists are also expected to roam our art filled city. Last year's numbers included 60,000 visitors with about 15,000 of those visitors coming from metropolitan centers like New York and European cities.

Last year, a popular feature of the Art Basel program was Public, an outdoor sculpture showcase that was put together by Public Art Fund director and chief curator, Nicholas Baume. Baume is back this year with this free outdoor program at Miami Beach's Collins Park featuring the theme of "Fieldwork" that will include 26 large scale and site specific installations by prominent and up and coming artists from 13 countries.

Another great feature of this year's Art Basel is the Film sector curated by David Gryn with the theme of playfulness. There will be a selection of over 70 films and videos by international artists which will be screened at SoundScape Park, which has a 7,000 square foot outdoor projection wall that is part of the New World Center, this program is also free to the public.

We hope you enjoy this very exciting time in South Florida. For information on Miami Deep Sea Fishing adventures on the Haulover Marina, you can contact THERAPY-IV by calling 305-945-1578 or email info@therapy4.com.

Happy Thanksgiving From The THERAPY-IV!

We at The THERAPY-IV, can't believe it's already Thanksgiving! And as this year is quickly coming to an end, we are thinking about the importance of this holiday and giving thanks for all that this year has brought all of us.

The Thanksgiving holiday always offers a great opportunity to take a break and remember what's important. It's also a good idea to think about what you accomplished and struggled through this year, being thankful for your own growth as well as the people that grow with you.

To give you some interesting facts about this holiday, it is not very widely known but in the turn-of-the-20th century, Thanksgiving in America used to look like today's celebration of Halloween. During this time people of all ages got dressed up and had costumed crawls all through the streets. In Los Angeles, Chicago and other places in the country, there were published stories of people wearing intricate masks and veils. Also, there were Thanksgiving mask balls in places like Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Montesano, Wash. In New York, this costume tradition was especially prevalent, with people in costumes in the streets that would honk horns and use rattles, plus it was socially accepted to have people throw confetti and flour at pedestrians.

Today, the closest we have to this type of celebration on this holiday is the Thanksgiving Day Macy's Parade with people in coordinated themed costumes in the streets of New York. The one thing the U.S. hasn't changed about Thanksgiving celebrations is the wonderful turkey dinners.

From our The THERAPY-IV family to your family, we wish you a happy Thanksgiving! For Miami Beach Deep Sea Fishing, the THERAPY-IV is a fully licensed fleet that has been specializing in Miami Beach Deep Sea Fishing Charter boats in Miami for 40 years. How to Charter a Fishing Boat With the THERAPY-IV

At the THERAPY-IV, we know that trying to make a decision on what boat to charter for deep sea fishing or a group event can be quite a challenge! So, we wanted to offer some advice that you may find helpful in making your decision.

If you aren't an experienced fisherman, you might want to try a half-day charter here in Miami, which is made especially convenient since the THERAPY-IV is located only 2 minutes away from the ocean and less than 10 minutes from fishing. A Half-day charter usually lasts about 4 hours, which gives you plenty of time to be able to land some great fish. Most boats offer a morning or afternoon sail, but the Therapy-IV gives you more time to fully enjoy this adventure.

The half-day charter at the Therapy-IV lasts from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm or from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. There is also a possibility for night fishing that can be arranged for groups that are interested. Plus, if a half-day isn't what you are looking for, you can try a full day excursion and you may be able to fish multiple locations to try and catch different species of fish.

The THERAPY-IV is also known for shared yacht charters and being the only charter boat in Miami that has a fill-in service. A fill-in service means that if your party is less than 6, which is the capacity of our boats, we fill-in the rest and don't charge you for any empty seats.

If you are looking for a more intimate experience, than a private charter may be better suited for you. For this option, you can contact us at the THERAPY-IV so we can make the accommodations that are best for you.

Chartering a boat is an especially great idea for a corporate day, it offers a great way to relax, have fun and build relationships with your coworkers. The THERAPY-IV has been working with several companies for a number of years and it's always interesting to see who catches the bigger fish, the rookie or the boss. If you are interested in hosting a large corporate event, we can organize multiple boats and host a fishing tournament between them.

Other important information to note is that the THERAPY-IV fleet is equipped to handle wheelchairs, to offer everyone the opportunity for a day at sea and Miami Deep Sea Fishing. Also, your charter will include rods, reels, bait, tackle and a Florida Fishing License.

The THERAPY-IV is a fully licensed fleet that has been running charters in Miami for 40 years. For more information on the services offered at the THERAPY-IV and Miami Beach Deep Sea Fishing, you can contact 305-945-1578 or email info@therapy4.com.

The Dolphins Prevail Over The Buffalo Bills!

Captain Stan of The THERAPY-IV Miami Deep Sea Fishing charter has always been proud of his roots in beautiful Miami. Operating out of Haulover Park Marina for decades, he never hesitates to back any and every team representing his proud city. That is why we are proud of our Miami Dolphins and their victory over the Buffalo Bills during last night's game, ending the three-loss streak against the AFC East rival.

Winning 22-9, the Fins played an impressive game as always. They trailed 9-3 before outscoring the Bills 19-0 over the final 18 minutes. Having improved to 6-4, Miami achieves its best record after 10 games since 2008 – a promising start to the season. The Fins have excelled at blitzing, ranking near the league lead in several categories, and promising to keep their opponents on their toes.

There were many highlights worth mentioning during this engaging play-through, not least of which was rookie receiver Jarvis Landry’s fourth-quarter touchdown, which redeemed his almost disastrous fumble early in the game. Meanwhile, Ryan Tannehill overcame five sacks to throw late touchdown passes seven yards to Brandon Gibson and eight yards to Landry.

All in all, it was another great performance from the only team in NFL history to score a perfect reason. We look forward to seeing them pull it off once again!

If you are ever near our location, pay a visit to The THERAPY-IV Miami Deep Sea Fishing Charter Boat, TripAdvisor’s no.1 activity in Miami Beach. We guarantee an unforgettable boating and fishing experience – plus, you can even watch the game inside our air-conditioned lounge! Captain Stan and the rest of The THERAPY-IV Miami Deep Sea Fishing charter wishes our veterans a heartfelt and appreciative Veterans Day. We have always had a deep and abiding respect for the men and women who have served in our armed forces and risked their lives for the good of the country.

In addition to the tremendous gratitude we have for veterans and active military members, The THERAPY-IV has always promoted Miami Beach Deep Sea Fishing as an excellent way for U.S. troops past and present to relax and enjoy themselves.

Most people involved in the military have experienced plenty of action and activity, and they courageously endure a significant burden placed upon them by the American people to protect this country. Needless to say, these service men and women are always are always looking forward to an activity that is both fun and relaxing – and they certainly deserve it!

The Therapeutic Benefits of Fishing

Many fans of fishing will tout it as a fun, leisurely activity that can be enjoyed by people of any age. But fishing is more than just for recreation, it may also have a positive impact on your overall health and wellness. According to a recent article from the Bulletin featured in the Miami Herald, a national group is using the therapeutic benefits of fishing to help breast cancer survivors as a form of therapy.

Casting for Recovery, a national non-profit with outlets throughout the country, is helping women heal from their bouts of breast cancer through fly fishing, a form of fishing that is popular in regions throughout the United States. According to statistics provided by the organization, over 70% of the women have never tried fishing before but many feel the effects of the fishing helping their overall wellbeing.

Every year, Casting for Recovery offers retreats for over 500 women so that they can help these women recover. Much of the project’s goals is to provide emotional support for the women. The retreats offer an opportunity to connect with other survivors who they can share their experiences of breast cancer with. But the fishing itself has a benefit as it provides a therapeutic boost for those who were afflicted in breast cancer. There is also a physical benefit accompanied with fly fishing for breast cancer survivors: the physical actions done during fly fishing are very similar to those doctors recommend to do during physical therapy.

With so many therapeutic effects for those who participate in fishing, there is no reason you shouldn't try it for yourself if you have never done it. Not only is it a calming activity that could give you an emotional boost but the physical exertion done during fishing can be beneficial as well. As the top rated Miami Deep Sea Fishing Charter, THERAPY-IV provides daily charters from Haulover Marina for those looking to fish out in the open sea. To learn more about our charters, contact Captain Stan at 305-945-1578.

Get Out The Vote November 4th!

The THERAPY-IV is proud to serve the community with our friendly and professional Miami Deep Sea Fishing services. We care deeply about where we live, which is why we want to take a moment to remind everyone of an absolutely important duty tomorrow: voting in your state, local, and Congressional election.

As residents of the United States, we're privileged to be living in a democracy where we have the right to choose elected officials who act on our behalf by representing us in local, state, and national offices. While each level of government requires different responsibilities for their respective constituencies, they all serve a purpose that is needed in carrying out a functional society.

Florida residents have a very important role in this election as many races are quite close. According to the Miami Herald, the election for the governor’s race has been deemed too close to call by pre-election polls. That means that while one of the candidates may be leading in the polls, the percentage is too small of a lead and it falls within the margin of error. That means that the election could be decided by a slim margin of votes, making every vote count.

Whatever your politics are, it's important that you exercise your right to vote on November 4th. Many servicemen have died in the line of duty protecting our right to live in a democracy and yet many do not choose to vote; this is unfortunate reality as the United States has one of the lowest turnout rates for elections in the developed world. But you can change that by participating in this civic duty on the coming Election Day.

Once you're done exercising your right to vote, consider celebrating the freedom you have by taking a Miami Beach Deep Sea Fishing Charter Boat with THERAPY-IV. We offer a wide variety of excursions that will meet your fishing charter needs. Whether you prefer a private or semi-private event, or want to spent a full-day of half-day, we have an option that is right for you. To learn more, call (305) 945-1578.

A Recap of the First Miami Heat Game of Year!

Captain Stan of The THERAPY-IV, the no.1 Miami Beach Deep Sea Fishing charter in South Florida, has been a dedicated Miami Heat fan his whole life. So needless to say, he was excitedly looking forward to the first game of the year, which ended in a resounding victory for the three-time winner of the NBA Championship.

The Heat opened the season with a 107-95 win over the Washington Wizards, proving that there is plenty of talent and magic left in their post-LeBron James era. As usual, the star team demonstrated incredible finesse and skill, with plenty of amazing highlights.

Chris Bosh had 26 points and 15 rebounds, Norris Cole scored a career-high of 23 points, and Dwayne Wade gained 21 points, 12 of which came decisively towards the end of the game. Even the rookies shined: James Ennis added a three-pointer with abut nine minutes left in the game, while fellow rookie Shabazz Napier helped widen the lead by another two points.

It was a riveting and engaging play, even if the end result was not in question: the Heat were certain to win! Captain Stan eagerly awaits more great plays as the season continues. Come back regularly to get updates and developments.

If you are ever near Haulover Park in Miami Beach, pay a visit to The THERAPY-IV Miami Deep Sea Fishing Charter Boat, rated the no.1 activity in Miami Beach by hundreds of reviewers on TripAdvisor. We guarantee an unforgettable boating and fishing experience – you can even watch the game inside our air-conditioned lounge!

Learn About Our Amazing Location -- Haulover Park

Haulover Park is not just the home to THERAPY-IV, the most revered Miami Beach Deep Sea Fishing charter; it is also home to many great facilities, businesses and services available year round much like our services are. Here are some of the great services and businesses you can visit at the park.

Because of the park’s wide open spaces and open breezes, Haulover Beach Park is often noted as a great place for people to fly kites. This has led to the success of one of our good neighbors Skyward Kites, a kite shop that has thrived for 20 years at the park. The shop has one of the largest selections of kites, windsocks and wind spinners in the South Florida area, some of which cost as little as $5 and available in a variety of shapes and colors. In addition, they can help you make your own custom kite to your exact wishes.

While the shop has existed at the park for several decades, that doesn't mean they haven't undergone significant changes over the years. In 2009, they upgraded their trailer to a state-of-the-art model powered by solar panels that capture solar energy. Surprisingly, the trailer was built and designed by the owner Dan Ward. Although kites are the main attraction, the shop also sells refreshments and treats like cold drinks and ice cream. Open every day from 10 am to sunset 364 days a year (except Christmas Day), this is a must see attraction of the park.

For those of you who want to work on your fitness, try visiting Oceanfront Fitness. The company offers fitness courses daily along the water by the Bill Bird Marina Entrance that are available for every fitness level. Whether you prefer the high-endurance sport of kickboxing, the tranquil stretches of yoga, the heart-pounding rigor of boot camp or the lively nature of Zumba, you’ll find the perfect class for you.

If you think that your dog needs classes more than you do, try visiting dog training classes provided by Rocco’s Pack Pet Services. Conveniently located at the park, you can help identify what causes your dog to misbehave badly, understand those triggers and also learn how to help manage your dog while he is misbehaving.

While you’re enjoying these great services at Haulover Park, you should also consider taking a Miami Deep Sea Fishing Charter with THERAPY-IV. As the highest-rated fishing charter in Miami according to TripAdvisor, we offer a variety charters that cater to the needs of our customers. To learn more, visit our website or call (305) 945-1578.

THERAPY-IV Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

With the beginning of October upon us, many across the country are taking the time to recognize an important issue. This month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time when we remember this horrible diseases that affects thousands of women every year. The iconic pink ribbon has become a sign of hope for millions and a reminder for women to take preventative steps by regularly screening for the disease.

In an effort to help us show support and raise awareness for the issue, THERAPY-IV will be flying a Breast Cancer Awareness flag for the entire month of October. Because we carry out Miami Deep Sea Fishing charters every day, we log an extraordinary amount of miles and are seen by many other boats and people throughout the day. Since so many people see our boat daily, thousands will likely see our pink ribbon flag.

With our Breast Cancer Awareness flag, we stand in solidarity with those who have been afflicted with breast cancer, some of whom are friends with the THERAPY-IV team or have participated on our Miami Beach Deep Sea Fishing charters. It is a disease that affects all women from a multitude of backgrounds, one that we hope to see an end of in our lifetimes. Even if just one person who sees our flag decides to donate to the cause or one woman does a screening for the disease, we would have made a difference.

While our flag is just one small contribution to the fight against Breast Cancer Awareness, together our small contributions can hopefully make a big difference in the fight against the disease. Women fighting breast cancer need as much support as they can and we must recognize those who have lost their battles.

Congratulations to John Contini – Broward County’s New Circuit Court Judge!

With deep roots in South Florida, The THERAPY-IV cares as much about what’s best for our community as we Miami Deep Sea Fishing. That is why we are proud to welcome John P. Contini as the new Broward County Circuit Judge!

Backed by The Miami Herald, and strongly endorsed by Captain Stan himself, John’s integrity, strong work ethic, and boundless enthusiasm will no doubt serve his community well. In addition to these vital personal qualities, he also brings tremendous professional experience, having served as both a state and federal prosecutor, as well as a member of the Broward State Attorney's and the U.S. Department of Justice's anti-obscenity task force.

John is best known for his 30 years as a successful and acclaimed criminal defense attorney. Viewing his work as deeply rewarding, he was driven to help clients receive second chances, successfully representing thousands of criminal defendants in Florida and across the United States. His ability to develop an affable and genuine relationship with everyone he worked with – clients, prosecutors, and judges alike – will no doubt be vital in his new position.

During the election campaign, John made it clear what he would bring to the table as Broward County Circuit Judge: “respect, civility, and humility” as well as the promotion of pre-trial resolution. That’s the sort of dedication and fair-mindedness that Broward County needs in a circuit judge, and we look forward to seeing the fruits of such an approach.

The THERAPY-IV Bids a Heartfelt Farewell to Dear Friend and Crew Member Adam Augusto

The THERAPY-IV is sad to announce the passing of our good friend and long-time crew member Adam Augusto (October 20, 1971 – August 22, 2014). For over thirty years, he brightened up our fishing charter, delighting colleagues and clients alike with his characteristic energy, enthusiasm, and compassion.

That is why everyone who had the pleasure to know and meet him referred to him as “Little Adam with a big heart” – because he was always kindhearted in everything he did. In all our years at sea, we never knew anyone who loved fishing as much as Adam did.

Whether it was on the job or in his personal time, he always embraced the nautical life, and did everything possible to help others enjoy it too. Needless to say, Adam will be deeply missed by all those fortunate to have had him in their lives.

That is why it is only fitting that Adam be given one last time to enjoy the ocean he deeply loved: this Saturday, August 30th, at 6:00 p.m., he will be given a burial at sea aboard THERAPY-IV out of Haulover Park. Most of the Haulover charter and drift boat fleet will be attending, with boats available for anyone wishing to join. Please wear brightly colored attire.

How Storms Affect Fishing

With little less than a month left until the fall season, weather patterns begin to change more frequently and with greater intensity. To the surprise of no Miami native, an angler can often start a day on the water under blue skies, only to find himself facing down a wall of ominous thunderheads in the afternoon.

Interestingly, the weather affects the success of a fishing trip, and many experienced fishermen know when exactly to go fishing on a rainy day. To successfully fish a storm front, you have to understand what is taking place in the atmosphere.

The Good Times: As a storm system approaches, a low-pressure warm front rides up over the top of a high-pressure cold front, causing condensation to take place in the form of clouds. During the time the skies are clouding up, and right on through to the end of the storm, there is a slow and steady drop in barometric pressure that increases as the main body of the system approaches.

Once the main body of the storm hits and moves through the area, rain, winds and sometimes thunder and lightning form along the frontal line. The pressure continues to drop until it bottoms out as the storm runs its course. The fishing should be good this entire time, although lightning and heavy rains on the water's surface might spook fish.

The Bad Times: As the inclement weather moves out, the cold front–a mass of heavier, denser, high-pressure air–begins to rush in behind the low-pressure system. The result is usually windy weather with clearing skies, dropping temperatures and a very sharp rise in barometric pressure.

Large storms will bring in stronger, more powerful and sustained winds, along with a much steeper, higher rise in barometric pressure than smaller storm systems will. It's this clear, windy weather following rainy low-pressure systems that anglers–especially those participating in big-money bass tournaments–dread, because it usually brings the fishing action to a standstill.

For anglers who have studied the activity of fish during rainy weather, they have noticed that the best catch is had during dropping or low barometric pressure. That said, the very best time to be on the water is during the drop in barometric pressure that occurs as a low-pressure system approaches.

Captain Stan Supports John P. Contini for Broward County Circuit Judge!

As a proud South Florida resident, Captain Stan is as passionate about his civic duty as he is Miami Deep Sea Fishing. That is why is backing John P. Contini as the ideal man for the job of Broward County Circuit Judge.

John is widely respected by friends and colleagues, well-known in all circles for his strong work ethic, professional and personal integrity, and genuine enthusiasm for law. A former state and federal prosecutor, the accomplished criminal defense attorney has an extensive 30-year background in law, including service in the Broward State Attorney's and the U.S. Department of Justice's anti-obscenity task force.

Compassionate both on and off the job, John considers his work as a criminal defense lawyer to be rewarding and privileged, seeing it as a way to help clients receive second chances. He has successfully represented thousands of criminal defendants in Florida and across the United States, developing positive working relationships with clients, prosecutors, and judges alike – the sort of genuine affability and pragmatism that are vital in the position of judge.

In addition to bringing professional courtesy and integrity to the judicial system, John has made it explicitly clear that he plans to imbue the office with “respect, civility, and humility” and will work actively to encourage legal combatants to reach a resolution instead of going to trial. That’s the sort of dedication and fair-mindedness that Broward County needs in a circuit judge.

The Miami Herald agrees, strongly recommending John for the position as well. Captain Stan unequivocally puts his faith in John Contini for this vital legal position.

A Tribute to Robin Williams- Truly an American Hero

Today we at THERAPY-IV would like to remember and honor one of the kindest and most-talented people in showbiz: Robin Williams. Across the nation, and even the globe, people everywhere are mourning the tragic loss of the beloved actor and comedian who continuously brought smiles and laughs, on and off camera.

Some might wonder why exactly Robin Williams was so beloved by everyone; it wasn’t that he was just a comedic genius (often titled the “Funniest Man in the World”) or talented actor/producer/screenwriter. He had a spark and zest that shined through every performance. He was open and genuine, sometimes incorporating his addictions and depression into his stand-up. Most of all, he was kind- celebrities and talk show hosts have since been posting their heart-warming tributes and opening up about their personal experiences with the legend and how he changed their lives through his acts of kindness (big and small).

Starting as a stand-up comedian in San Franciso and Los Angeles, he soon rose to fame as Mork in the TV series Mork & Mindy (1978-82), then went on to establish a successful career in both stand-up comedy and feature film acting. If you haven't seen any of his films, be sure to have a Robin Williams movie marathon; you will not be disappointed. Williams was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor three times and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Good Will Hunting. He also received two Emmy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and five Grammy Awards.

Suffering from a long-standing battle with addiction and depression, Robin Williams decided to end his life August 11th, 2014 at the age of 63. If you struggle with these very real demons, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number: 1-800-273-8255. The call is free, confidential, and will be answered by a trained counselor at a local crisis center.

Eye on the Weather- How To Prepare Your Boat for a Hurricane

If you live in Miami, you'll likely have already about Tropical Storm Bertha currently on a trajectory towards the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. While it seems Bertha won't make landfall in South Florida, this has got us thinking about safety in case of one heading our way. As sailors, there’s nothing we can do to change the outcome of these predictions. But we can be prepared. Here are some tips on preparing your boat for a hurricane:

For Smaller, Lightweight Boats
Determine what you need to do to load and haul your boat to a safer area.
Be sure your tow vehicle is capable of properly moving the boat.
Check the condition of your trailer tires, bearings and axle. Too often a flat tire, frozen bearings or broken axle prevent an owner from moving a boat.
Once at a safe place, lash your boat to the trailer and place blocks between the frame members and the axle inside each wheel. Owners of lightweight boats may wish to consider letting out about half the air in the tires, then filling the boat one-third full of water to help hold it down. Consult with the manufacturer for the best procedure for securing your lightweight boat.

For Boats in Dry Storage
Determine the safest obtainable haven for your boat and make arrangements to move your boat there. When selecting a safe location, be sure to consider whether storm surge could rise into that area.
Wherever you choose to locate your boat for the duration of the storm, lash the boat to its cradle with heavy lines. Based on the weight of the boat, consider adding water to the bilge to help hold it down.
Never leave a boat in davits or on a hydro-lift.

For Boats Remaining in Marina Berth
Double all lines. Rig crossing spring lines fore and aft and attach high on pilings to allow for tidal rise or surge. Make sure lines will not slip off pilings. Inspect pilings and choose those that seem the strongest and tallest and are property installed. All storm lines should be at least one size larger than regular lines.
Cover all lines at rough points to prevent chafing. Wrap with tape, rags or rubber hose, etc. Install fenders to protect the boat from rubbing against the pier, pilings and other boats.
Assess the attachment of primary cleats, winches and chocks. These should have substantial back plates and adequately sized stainless steel bolts.
Batteries should be fully charged and checked to ensure their capability to run automatic bilge pumps for the duration of the storm. Consider backup batteries. Turn off all other devices that use electricity.
Do not stay aboard your boat!

For more information on Miami Beach Deep Sea Fishing, contact the THERAPY-IV by calling 305-945-1578.

Avoid a Sunburn With These Tips

When you’re out on the azure waters, embarking on the adventure that is Miami Beach Deep Sea Fishing, it is easy to overlook one of the essential ingredients needed for enjoying the outdoors in Miami: sun block. Even if you do remember to put on sun block, with all the salt water around, you’re going to want a little extra protection. Here are some tips for avoiding a sunburn:

Wear a wide brimmed hat.  They keep the sun off your neck and ears.
Wear a long sleeved shirt. It’s the easiest way to keep the sun off your arms, and there are lightweight long-sleeved shirts that will keep you cool.
Don’t wear a V-Neck.  Unless you don’t mind that little pink V in the middle of your chest.
Wear pants.  Again there are plenty of lightweight options.
Keep your socks on in the skiff.  You shouldn’t cast from the bow of the boat wearing flats boots because you can’t feel the line under your feet, but with bare feet the tops of your feet can get burned.  With socks on you can feel your fly line but your feet are protected.
Wear sunsleeves.  If you really prefer short-sleeved shirts, sunsleeves are a great option to keep your forearms protected.
Wear a Buff.  There’s a reason pretty much all flats guides use them – it’s a simple, versatile way to keep sun off your head and face.  Lots of different brands work great.
Use good sunscreen.  Since you’re taking the time to lather it on, be sure it’s high quality stuff.
Reapply sunscreen.  No sunscreen lasts all day.  Reapply when you’re out on the water.  Lunchtime is an excellent marker.
Stand in the shade. You can lose track of time when fishing, so spend it under the shade when you can.
Wear sun gloves.  They take a little getting used to, but they keep the sun off one of the most vulnerable parts of your body.
Use lip protection.  A cracked, nasty bottom lip is no fun.  Don’t forget the chap stick with sun protection.

At the end of the trip crew new all five of us by our first name. We were greeted by Captain Stan (owner). I have to say that he runs a first-class operation. Yacht was extremely clean. Thank you Captain Stan and the Amazing Crew you have that made our day so special.” -Dayamilazo

I’m from NYC, came to Florida for business reasons. Fortunately, I had a day off. Well, thank god I picked the THERAPY 4 to get my fish craving relieved. The captain and mate Abie were nothing short of spectacular. Left the dock around 1pm weather was perfect and so was the boat. They welcomed me with open arms. Though the fishing was slow they made sure to put me on to some fish. The tackle and accommodations were great. ABIE, was very outgoing and has wicked knowledge of the waters we fished. Ive been fishing since i was five years old and its great when you can still get schooled by an intelligent crew. THUMBS UP GUYS!!!!” –Joe C
