Physically, fishing is not all that demanding. It doesn't take a lot of strength and stamina to fish. However, fishing does incorporate the exercising of the lungs, heart and various muscle groups. After all, one does have to get to a place from which they can fish. That generally includes walking, possibly some minor climbing, and carrying one's gear to the favorite fishing spot. These are all physical activities which burn calories and exercise various muscle groups, all of which is good for one's health.
The various activities involved in readying oneself for fishing are also good exercise for the muscles of the fingers, hands, wrists and forearms. Assembling a reel to one's rod, attaching hooks, sinkers, bobbin's and even the bait are all activities which work these muscles to some degree. Then, there is the casting of the bait into the water. This activity exercises the muscles of the upper arm, shoulder and back. One probably won't get a good cardio workout from fishing, but one will get enough exercise to maintain a degree of dexterity and maybe some muscle tone.
Fishing allows one to rest and relax one's mind. No pressure, no deadlines, nobody wanting this or that, no noisy machines or people; just fresh air, sunshine and plenty of rest and relaxation. A brain vacation! Of course, one needn't lapse into a comatose state while fishing. It is sufficient to just clear one's mind and wonder or daydream.
In conclusion, fishing is a great recipe for a healthier body and mind. Take a little exercise, mix it with sunshine and fresh air, and add a few snacks and something to wash them down with, then do it frequently and enjoy better health. And there is one more benefit. With a little luck, one may catch a fish for dinner, and everyone knows that eating fish is very healthy.

How to Treat Seasickness
Seasickness occurs when the inner ear becomes unbalanced due to the rocking motion of a boat or ship. The part of the brain that controls balance becomes confused because it sees objects that are normally stationary, such as pictures and furniture, suddenly become mobile.Seasickness begins with a cold sweat, is followed by an upset stomach with fatigue, and ends in nausea and vomiting. Below are some tips to help treat seasickness when it occurs:
1. Stay close to the middle of the vessel. The middle has less motion than the bow and stern. Find a place to sit and relax in the middle of the cruise ship deck and take some deep breaths of fresh air.
2. Look at the horizon. The stationary horizon will always appear still and in the same place. Your brain will recognize the stillness and send clues to your inner ear. Your inner ear, then regains its balance and the seasick feeling subsides.
3. Eat a bland diet. Stick to bland foods like crackers and bread. Following the B.R.A.T. diet, which stands for bananas, rice, applesauce and toast, helps, too.
4. Take ginger capsules or eat ginger cookies. Ginger is a natural remedy for nausea. If you can find ginger ale containing real ginger, taking small and frequent sips can alleviate nausea.
5. Use medication. There are over the counter medicines that you can purchase before a trip or get from the ship's doctor to treat seasickness. Anti-nausea patches provide a time-release of medication. These small patches are placed behind the ear and can last up to 3 days.
6. Apply acupressure to the inside of your wrists. Motion sickness bands apply pressure to the median nerve in the wrist, which is in charge of nausea. The bands are available over the counter.
7. Avoid thinking about feeling seasick. Keeping your mind occupied on anything other than the nausea and sweating can help reduce the seasick feeling.

Our fleet consists of two magnificent, huge yachts fully-equipped to catch a variety of fish, such as Marlin, Sailfish, Sharks, Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi or Dorado), Tuna, Wahoo, Barracuda, Snappers, and many more. Captain Stan Saffan- Founder of The THERAPY-IV
The THERAPY-IV’s captain, Stan Saffan, is an established boater and fisherman with over 40 years of experience fishing in the Miami waters. He started fishing at the age of seven with his father and brother, both on fishing piers and on drift-fishing boats at Haulover Beach. At age thirteen, he started working on all-day drift-fishing boats as a deckhand and then as first mate. Through a combination of experience and instincts, he was able to just about predict what would happen each day, earning the name the human fish to regular customers.
Captain Stan continued to work every weekend, holiday, and summer to perfect the art of fishing the Florida waters, all in the endeavor to fulfill his dream of one day becoming a captain and launching his own fishing charters. Throughout college, he worked at sea every afternoon and weekend on local sportfishing boats and, within a few years, started working full-time on the first “THERAPY.” In 1976, Stan built his first charter fishing boat, and continued to build another one before completing his new 2010 THERAPY-IV.

Deep Sea Fishing Tips for Beginners
For the novice deep sea fishing charter guest, below are some great tips for enjoying a successful trip on your part.
1. Before booking deep sea fishing charters, make sure that your captain is fully licensed and experienced. Nobody likes to expect problems, but for safety reasons you always have to be prepared for emergencies. A licensed captain is well-qualified to assist you and others through any difficult situations that may arise. You can also take advantage of your captain’s experience to get some inside information that can make your fishing more fruitful.
2. Listen carefully to the captain and crew. Their goal is to make your trip as enjoyable as possible. Anything they say is going to be directed toward that purpose. It’s in your best interest to follow their instructions and learn from their experience.
3. You have probably heard plenty of horror stories about people dealing with seasickness. Unfortunately, there’s no way to predict if you’re susceptible. If you should start feeling queasy, look at the horizon. While this advice has been passed along ever since humans first ventured out on the seas, studies have found scientific evidence to back it up. Fixing your gaze on something steady in the distance helps your brain overrule the message it’s getting from the swaying motion of the boat. Keeping your head up also gives you better posture, which can stabilize a complaining stomach.
4. As with many other activities, your attitude can mean the difference between enjoyment and disappointment. Even the most skilled anglers aren’t guaranteed to catch fish every time out. If that’s the yardstick you use to evaluate your experience, you’ll miss out on a lot of other benefits of your trip. Step on board with the intention to have a good time. Chances are you won’t be let down.

At The THERAPY-IV, we have long claimed to be the best Miami Beach Deep Sea Fishing charter you could ever experience. We are incredibly confident in the services we offer because we have over 40 years experience fishing these waters, along with videos of some of the best catches you will ever see in Miami and Biscayne Bay. There are a LOT of clips to enjoy, and if you don’t feel like sifting through all of them, I’d like to highlight a few. First, there is a Hammerhead catch that took us over an hour to reel in; a worthy opponent- he wiggled around the deck for a bit. Next is a gorgeous Dolphin (Mahi Mahi) catch with lovely color that made a beautiful picture. Also, check out this fantastic Sailfish catch found just a few miles off the coast of Miami Beach. We recently hosted a Brown-footed Booby release that was truly inspiring. There’s much more to see on our YouTube page, so have a look and see what we’re all about!
You can find a huge variety of species in the Atlantic waters of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, most of them visible all year round. Some include numerous types of sharks, Marlin, Dolphin fish, Tuna, Grouper, Barracuda, Snapper, Black Sea Bass, and Kingfish, among many others. Check out pictures of some of the monsters we have caught deep-sea fishing on the Daily Catch section of our website. That could be you and your family on your next fishing trip with Therapy-IV!
I’m Captain Stan of The THERAPY-IV crew and I’ve been a passionate sports fisherman since I was a young man. To plan your trip with us, call us at 305-945-1578.
