Critical Mass Visits Miami Beach

If you don’t have any plans for the weekend yet, you might want to consider putting on your protective gear, grabbing your bike, and bringing along a bottle of water. Tomorrow is July’s Critical Mass, the monthly cycling event held every last Friday that aims to bring locals together to take a ride through Miami’s always active streets. This month’s Critical Mass is changing it up a bit and bringing the bikes and crowds right here to Miami Beach.

Critical Mass participants will be heading into Miami Beach at about 7:15 pm via the 79th Street Causeway, continuing eastbound along 71st Street before switching south into Indian Creek Drive and 63rd Street. Cyclists will then be pedaling through Collins Avenue to 23rd Street and eventually west to Dade Boulevard. The Venetian Causeway is the final route before participants return to the original starting point in Miami.

Although Critical Mass has yet to become an officially sanctioned or permitted event, the Miami Beach Police Department does plan on placing officers at various intersections to ensure safety. Residents and anyone who may be planning on dropping by Miami Beach may want to plan ahead as it’s expected that Critical Mass will cause traffic tie-ups for at least three hours.
