It’s easy to become preoccupied with the sweltering summer heat, and often the more you think about it the hotter you’ll feel. To take your mind off of the heat and whatever other concerns may be on your mind, you can always try dancing, or in this case “contradance”.
What is contradance? Consider it an evolved version of square dancing with English, Scottish, French, African origins where a band calling itself Cornbread performs music at the North Beach Bandshell designed to get everybody of all ages dancing. In fact, by the time the dancing is over, just about everyone has danced with each other. Cornbread’s Anita Mason and her husband are largely responsible for bringing Contradance to South Florida and it’s being held every Thursday from 8pm to 10pm. Guests that wish to receive dance lessons should arrive an hour early.
Tonight’s Contradance event will have an Irish vibe followed by a “best of” of sorts next week. Admission to the event is free but guests are encouraged to make a donation of $5.
