The country is coming together in support of the numerous victims currently dealing with the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, which has caused a tremendous amount of flooding and left many people scrambling to find shelter. At THERAPY-IV, we send our sincerest and warmest thoughts and prayers to the people of Texas. We firmly believe Texas will come together and overcome this tragedy.

To help with Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts, Captain Stan Saffan of THERAPY-IV will be doing his part by donating a percentage of each trip to the American Red Cross which has been working overtime to help the relief effort. This percentage applies to both of the boats in the THERAPY-IV fleet.

Meet the Man Behind the Boat

Today we’d like to take a closer look at the man behind Miami Beach’s popular THERAPY-IV experience: Captain Stan Saffan. Saffan was introduced to fishing at the age of seven. Along with his father and sibling, he nurtured his experience by working on fishing piers and drift fishing boats before moving over to drift fishing boats as a deckhand. Saffan continued to learn the ropes and eventually earned the title of first mate by the time he was a teenager.
Upon attending college, Saffan spent his afternoons and weekends working on local sportfishing boats. A few years later, he officially began work on what would become the first THERAPY charter fishing boat, debuting it in 1976. Since then, he has evolved his deep sea fishing boat fleet into the modern vessel we know today as the THERAPY-IV.
As a longtime South Florida resident, Captain Stan knows all about the seas and its inhabitants. Consistently receiving top ratings on TripAdvisor, the experience is definitely a memorable one. Meet Captain Stan and discover deep sea fishing!

Are You Ready for the Eclipse?

The excitement for today’s solar eclipse has reached a fever pitch in South Florida as people scramble to find solar eclipse friendly glasses that are increasingly hard to come by. With the unobstructed views of the ocean and the sky, Miami Beach is a great spot to view the eclipse, a fascinating phenomenon that has not happened in more than 35 years!
You’ve probably heard a lot about how dangerous it is to stare directly at the eclipse, hence the need for safety glasses. To ensure your eyes are being properly protected, make sure these glasses meet the international standard ISO 12312-2 for safe viewing. Failure to take proper safety measures when staring at the eclipse could lead to significant eye damage, including permanent vision loss due to the intense ultraviolet rays. With an eclipse, there is an even greater risk as this damage can happen in a short amount of time. Definitely, make sure that your glasses or whatever method you’ve devised is safe.
Always remember to use proper eye protection even when an eclipse is not happening. When you’re out on a deep sea fishing boat, the rays reflecting off of the water can also be blinding.

Miami Beach to Launch Trolley Express Route

In an effort to further improve city transportation, Miami Beach is looking to roll out a complimentary express trolley service connecting the northern end and South Beach areas. Passengers would have a quick way of reaching North Beach and Lincoln Road, with minimal stops in between.
This express trolley would further extend the Miami Beach trolley, a free service that has considerably gained in popularity since its debut over the past three years. If everything goes according to plan, the Middle Beach route would undergo an extension to connect it further into the North and South Beach area.
Miami Beach is currently awaiting approval from Miami-Dade County commissioners to begin rolling out the express trolley. Once the city receives the okay, the new route is expected to be up and running sometime next month or in October.
Have you used Miami Beach’s free trolley at all? Would you be more inclined to use it if and when the city rolls out this new express route? Feel free to share in the comments.

Another week, another list of various free events in Miami Beach for you to check out.
Are you a rum drinker? Maybe the type that can appreciate a well-prepared rum and Coke or rum-infused piña colada? If so, take some time to visit the Angler’s Hotel on Wednesday to celebrate National Rum Day. Enjoy mojitos for only $2, rum cake lollipops, and plenty more while you catch the appropriately themed film The Rum Diary.
Venezuelan musical artist Manu Manzo will perform at the Summer Crafts and Concerts at Madewell event on Lincoln Road this Thursday beginning at 6 pm. Taste some of the sweet bites courtesy of Elsie’s Flour Shop plus food prepared by Fufi Restaurant. The event is free but does require RSVP.
Did you grow up in or do you miss the simpler days of the 90s? This Saturday, the Raleigh Hotel will kick off its We Love the '90s Pool Party at noon. DJs Tillery James and Myke Dilla will spin classic tunes in an atmosphere intended to be refreshingly unpretentious. Admission is free with RSVP.

Spend a Summer Day on the THERAPY-IV

The summer season is slowly drawing to a close, but it’s not too late to take advantage of the warm weather and enjoy some summertime fishing. From mahi-mahi, sailfish, and barracuda to wahoo sharks, and more, we can’t wait to catch some big fish with you! We have two large, modern deep sea charter fishing boats waiting at Haulover Marina and we offer the flexibility of full day or half a day fishing adventures. Don’t worry, our boats have A/C so you can remain cool during the sometimes sweltering heat.
When you’re out experiencing fishing, you may not want to find yourself competing with lots of strangers for that big catch. We make it a point to keep the number of people low (six) so there’s plenty of space for everyone and plenty of opportunities to catch something big. With the flexibility of private or shared charters, you can choose which option suits you best. We welcome individuals, couples, families, and we’re also a great choice for groups. Have your next party on board and try something refreshingly different!
We’ve received the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for seven years in a row and we would love to have you on board. Let’s go fishing in August!
