Miami Beach Joins the Poke Craze

Are you a fan of the Hawaiian-born seafood bowl better known as poke? If so, you may want to check out the new Pink Rock Sea opening its doors on Miami Beach’s Española Way next month. In keeping with its name, the shop is tropically-themed, featuring strong use of bold colors like pink and green.
Pink Rock Sea is the product of siblings David and Jonathan Tang. This Miami Beach restaurant represents the first eatery by the brothers while the name of it refers to Hawaiian sea salt and the times the two spent partying it up at New York’s famous Roxy nightclub.
In case you’ve never heard of poke, the name of it is Hawaiian and it means “to cut or slice raw fish”. It’s a highly popular dish in cities such as New York and Los Angeles and also maintains a high degree of popularity in areas where there is a strong number of Hawaiian denizens. Miami Beach is one of the latest cities to join the poke craze.
Pink Rock Sea opens on October 10 and will be located at 214 Española Way.

Ice Bars, Pineapples, and Hurricane Benefits This Week

As Miami and Miami Beach continue to move forward beyond Hurricane Irma, there are plenty of events going on to keep South Floridians busy. The week may be coming to an end, but there is still lots to do.
Rosh Hashanah began last night, the Jewish New Year. In case you missed it, the popular Drinkhouse Fire & Ice right here in Miami Beach got into the swing of things last night. If you’ve never been there, the major highlight is the ice bar made out of 10,000 pounds of ice which includes ice sculptures and even drinks served in ice glassware. The bar is definitely a unique experience and worth a visit.
The Matador Room on Collins Avenue is serving a unique blend of pizza tonight at its Matador Bar as part of its monthly Pineapples & Pizza series. Try some avocado pizza made with ingredients like jalapeño while you sip on pineapple cocktails. Bring along a friend to enjoy the live music! The event begins at 9 pm.
Should you wish to contribute to a worthy cause, the Rust Pelican over in Key Biscayne is hosting its Pour for a Cause hurricane benefit event to raise funds for people still grappling with the effects of Hurricane Irma. You’ll find over eight drink stations plus a silent auction and plenty of raffles. The event begins at 7 pm and continues until 10 pm.

What Type of Bait Should You Use?

To catch fish, you’re going to need to grab their attention with the use of some alluring bait. While every fishing aficionado has their preferred bait, live baits have been proven to be effective in catching a multitude of species. The examples below are by no means the only solution but if you’re trying to figure out where to get started, they may help.
Crayfish. When you’re looking to snag some of the larger predatory fish, crayfish are highly effective. Perhaps the biggest hurdle you’ll run into with this bait is finding it, and they do require a degree of trial and error to use.
Nightcrawlers. This type of bait is a great choice for catching virtually any type of fish, but they do require proper rigging. Unlike crayfish, they are generally easier to find.
Live bait fish. Should you decide to go with live bait fish, the minnow remains a popular choice. As with nightcrawlers, they are readily available and have also been proven effective in snagging various sea dwellers. Make sure your fishing hook isn’t too large when using this type of bait.

Getting Started with Deep Sea Fishing

Getting started with deep sea fishing may seem overwhelming, but knowing a few basics can make the experience a little easier for those planning on trying it out for the first time. Here are a few things to know.
Decide your method. You can either take your own boat out or choose a chartered boat, the latter option is the wisest for beginners. Should you decide on a charter, you’ll need to decide whether you prefer a private charter or a shared one with other people. Also, make sure that you do your research on the captain.
Don’t let seasickness ruin the experience. There is a much greater likelihood of becoming seasick on a small boating vessel, a deep sea fishing boat being a prime example. For the most part, seasickness is mental and the less you focus on symptoms, the lower the odds of it happening. However, definitely take the steps to make sure you don’t become seasick. That means refraining from consuming alcohol and keeping some Dramamine around, just in case.
Get ready for some fun. Deep sea fishing can be as relaxing as it is thrilling, and there is nothing quite like catching a massive sea dweller. Learning how to fish can be a highly useful survival skill and the best crew will take the time to help you become a future expert fisherman.
