New Year’s Eve in South Florida

Have you decided what you will be doing for New Year’s Eve yet? If you haven’t, why not consider spending it right here in beautiful Miami Beach? Instead of dealing with the frigid temperatures of Times Square, you can welcome 2019 in the warmer temperatures where you’re bound to spot a celebrity or two.
Bayfront Park is quickly emerging as South Florida’s answer to Times Square. Similar to Ryan Seacrest becoming synonymous with New Year’s Eve celebrations in New York, our own native “Mr. 305” better known as Pitbull has been headlining at Bayfront Park. The New Year's Revolution celebration has become something of a Miami tradition and it brings hundreds of thousands of people together to ring in the New Year.
If these massive celebrations aren’t your thing, you can always head to the posh Fontainebleau right here in Miami Beach and enjoy the poolside performances courtesy of multicultural musical acts like the Swedish DJ Alesso or the reggaeton stylings of Colombian singer José Álvaro Osorio Balvin, better known simply as J Balvin.
No matter where you decide to go, you’re bound to have a great time in South Florida. Happy 2019!

What to Do with Your Catch

There is no doubt that deep sea fishing is one of the most memorable and unique experiences you can enjoy. From sailing out onto the waters of South Florida to the thrill of feeling something tug on your line and the rush of reeling it in, it’s quite exhilarating. Once you’ve triumphantly caught your fish, what should you do next?
There are instances where you may have to or may wish to release the fish. Depending on the fish, you may only be able to catch and release it if, for example, the fish is not the minimum size legally required to keep it. Then again, you may not wish to keep the fish for whatever reason. The simple thrill of catching and knowing you managed to catch one all by yourself is sometimes enough.
Have you seen those fish some people have mounted on the walls? It may not necessarily be the particular fish the person successfully caught. Preserving the fish is a process that’s easier said than done, so most people prefer to have it replicated by an expert. Consider snapping a photo of the fish that highlights its details.

Where to Eat After Fishing and Art Basel

You’re planning your holiday trip of deep sea fishing, Art Basel, and food. With so many different places to try in Miami Beach, which one deserves your hard earned money? Here are a couple of suggestions worth considering.
Lucali is a pizzeria and wine bar on Bay Road which has what may be perhaps the most delicious pizza in all of Miami Beach. The $24 price may seem steep but the taste speaks for itself. All of the ingredients are imported directly from Italy, which means you’ll be having genuine San Marzano tomatoes while you enjoy the more than generously sized pies.
Speaking of Italy, the Italian-themed restaurant Macchialina on Alton Road is among the best of its kind in the barrier island. It is particularly well-known for its small plates meant to be shared like the meatballs. Don’t forget to try the coffee granita topped tiramisu for dessert before you go.
The menu served at the Pubbelly on 20th Street is a mix of Asian and Puerto Rican fare devised by chef Jose Mendin. Try dishes like the Brussels sprouts bacon miso or perhaps the pork belly bao buns. You can also munch on sushi next door at the appropriately named Pubbelly Sushi.

Famous Rapper’s Restaurant Debuts This Month

Miami has given rise to plenty of superstars, with singer and former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello being one of them. However, few names are as tied to Miami as rapper Armando Christian Pérez, better known by his stage name Pitbull and “Mr. 305” moniker. He has established quite the presence in South Florida and one of his latest ventures is set to tie him even more to his birthplace.
This month, Pitbull’s highly anticipated iLov305 restaurant makes its debut. Strangely however, though the restaurant publicist states the restaurant will be open by Christmas Day, there is no firm opening date and the grand opening party isn’t scheduled until January 15, the day when Pitbull will celebrate his 38th birthday.
Once it opens its doors at its 1060 Ocean Drive address in Miami Beach, iLov305 will feature a Latin steakhouse theme. The restaurant will have over 6,000 square feet of lounge and bar space and will serve a series of cocktails with names like the “305 Grande” and “La Diabla” along with Pitbull’s own brand of vodka called Voli.
For those seeking employment, iLov305 is still seeking to fill positions for bartenders, hosts, and servers.

The Miami Art Celebrations Are on the Horizon

Happy Monday! While we continue to recover from the long weekend, South Florida is gearing up for one of its most exciting and popular events: Miami Art Week! Next week marks the return of Art Basel, as well as several other notable art fairs.
Of all the art fairs, Art Basel remains the biggest. Over 200 galleries are expected to make an appearance at the revamped Miami Beach Convention Center as part of one of six different sections. Artist Abraham Cruzvillegas is also showcasing his work as a replacement to the Public Art Program. For those into furniture design, Design Miami is being held adjacent to the Miami Beach Convention Center and features artist-made object plus various partnerships with other institutions.
Art Miami is returning for its 29th edition this year and will be held at its new home in the downtown area of Miami near the water. Among its many notable works, the fair will include an exhibition curated by actress and model Brooke Shields.
CONTEXT Art Miami is a fairly recent fair held near Art Miami. More than ninety galleries from around the world will be showcasing work and if the past is any indication, expect to see over 70,000 visitors this year.

Get Your Thanksgiving Pie

No Thanksgiving celebration is complete with some delicious pie. Whether you opt for apple, pumpkin, pecan pie, or something else, there are several places in Miami and beyond selling pies just in time for the holiday. Don’t wait too long as they may be sold out!
Right here in Miami Beach, Joe’s Stone Crab is a longtime South Florida favorite. Its key lime pie has achieved something of a legendary status and it can even be delivered right to your door and there is no preorder necessary. All you need to do is use Joe’s Takeaway to get your pie.
Bunnie Cakes on Second Avenue in Miami has a broad selection of pies, most of which are also available in vegan and gluten-free options. If you’d rather not go for something like sweet potato and marshmallow pie, you can choose something like cinnamon coffee cake or Thanksgiving cupcakes.
It’s already acclaimed for its incredible cinnamon rolls and the long lines people make to wait for them, but Knaus Berry Farms in Homestead also sells freshly baked pies. Go for key lime, stick with a classic pecan, or try the fruit-filled. You’ll have until Wednesday.

South Florida Honors Veterans

Today, we are honoring the numerous brave men and women that served in the United States Armed Forces. Although Veterans Day was actually yesterday, the day is being observed throughout the United States today. Lots of places in Miami-Dade County are holding events or doing something special to honor all of these courageous individuals.
For those that like the menu offerings of IHOP, the chain is is serving a free Red, White, and Blueberry Pancake Combo to all customers that are veterans or happen to be serving as active duty military until 7 pm tonight. Over in Miami Gardens, the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex Auditorium is having a Veterans Day lunch which is still in effect until 2 pm.
Right here in Miami Beach, the Veterans Day-themed events happened yesterday with military fly-overs in addition to a family picnic. During the events of World War I, Miami Beach’s hotels and beaches were important in serving as home bases for soldiers. Ocean Drive also held its customary parade which today features thousands of participants, a far cry from its initial starts when just fifty people participated.

Miami Makes Its Fishing Debut on Nat Geo Wild

Nature lovers are probably quite familiar with the Nat Geo Network and its host of wildlife-themed television shows. The network recently set its sights on none other than the Magic City of Miami as part of its six-episode series titled “Fish My City”.
“Fish My City” delved deep into Miami’s many waterways and canals as fishermen sought to catch several classic and exotic species of fish. During the Miami episode which aired late last month, fisherman Mike Iaconelli met up with fellow fishing aficionados to catch fish like the exotic midas cichlid and peacock bass as well as South Florida’s popular sea dwellers like the tarpon and snook. Each time the fishermen caught one, Iaconelli would take a moment to explain the fish and its history. For example, the grass carp was a gift of sorts from Asia intended to tackle a weed invasion.
The Miami episode of “Fish My City” has already aired. If you missed it, you can more than likely find it online.

THERAPY-IV Stands Behind Pittsburgh

The country is once again reeling from yet another shooting, this time happening in Pittsburgh. For those that may be unaware, a gunman opened fire at a synagogue called Tree of Life, taking the lives of eleven people and wounding several others. After exchanging gunfire with police, suffering injuries, and eventually surrendering, the gunman was taken into custody. Authorities believe the crime may have been motivated by religious hatred.
Despite verbally expressing his strongly negative opinions of Jewish people, news reports detail that after being injured and being taken to a hospital, the gunman was, in fact, treated by several people who also happened to be of the Jewish faith.
Several South Florida synagogues and organizations of Jewish faith are planning events this week to remember and mourn the victims as well as denounce the massacre that occurred. All of us at THERAPY-IV send our sincerest thoughts and condolences to the victims and families of the Tree of Life shooting.

Halloween in Miami Beach

This week, we once again celebrate Halloween and it’s safe to say Miami Beach is definitely a city that comes to life during this annual celebration. Lincoln Road, in particular, turns into one giant masquerade as people don a series of creative costumes. Let’s explore some of the events going on this week.
Speaking of Lincoln Road, over 45,000 people are expected to be on Miami Beach’s ever-popular promenade and the profusion of bars, restaurants, and cafes will all be great spots to catch a glimpse of what is sure to be an exciting parade of people in different costumes. The Cafe at Books & Books, for example, will be offering a three-course Halloween dinner for $69 with great seating to watch the parade. In keeping with the spooky ambiance, Chotto Matte on Lenox Avenue will be serving certain drinks in a colored test tube.
The examples above barely scratch the surface of what’s in store for anyone visiting Miami Beach for Halloween this year. Have fun!

Dwyane Wade Returns to the Heat

After a long time of waiting to see if he would come back, Dwyane Wade confirmed that he will return to the Miami Heat. He announced that he will be returning for his 16th and final NBA season. Wade spent much of his time during the last couple of months weighing his options whether to retire or come back for one last run. He will have a one year contract for $2.4 million dollars with the Miami Heat. Wade is the Heat leader in points, assists, steals, games played and he has also averaged 22.5 points per game in his career. The Heat signed 19 players for camp and the last spot was reserved for Dwyane Wade, which comes as no surprise considering the impact and history he has had with the Miami Heat franchise.
This season, the Heat will have Wade from the beginning of the season as opposed to last year where he came in mid season from a trade. The plan is to have Wade come off the bench and play 20 to 25 minutes per game. Coach Spoelstra might even have Wade close out games as it’s always been one of his strengths. He could have joined another team but chose not to due to family commitments and wanting to see his son play basketball.

Helping Those Affected by Hurricane Michael

Hurricane Michael ripped through the Florida Panhandle last week, leaving behind a trail of destruction, especially in cities like Mexico Beach. As is the case with any major disaster, recovery efforts are well underway as thousands of people come together to help with providing supplies and food to residents that have been displaced.
Florida Governor Rick Scott has already activated the Florida Disaster Fund to provide assistance to victims of Hurricane Michael but there are other ways you can make a difference. The Red Cross is in critical need of blood donations following the storm. There is also a Hurricane Michael GoFundMe page set up with various campaigns you can donate to. Relief workers, as well as those that have been displaced by the storm, can use an Airbnb map to find hosts that are offering their homes for free.
We will also be doing what we can to help with Hurricane Michael recovery efforts. For every trip sailed on either of the two THERAPY-IV boats, we will be donating a percentage of the trip to the American Red Cross of Florida.

Enhance Your Deep Sea Fishing Experience

With saltwater fishing, there are tips worth keeping in mind that will come in handy for deep sea fishing amateurs as well as those that have years of experience under their belt. Use these the next time you’re heading out on the water.

Get creative with lures. When you’re fishing in saltwater, the visibility isn’t quite as clear as that of freshwater. Hence, you’ll want to use a lure that stands out and will grab the attention of whatever fish it is you’re attempting to catch. This might mean using a bright lure that a fish can easily spot.

Practice patience. Anyone who is experiencing deep sea fishing for the first time will be eager to experience their first catch. It’s worth keeping in mind that the ocean is massive and seemingly endless. If the fish don’t start biting right away, don’t get discouraged. Oftentimes it’ll happen when you least expect it, and the thrill of reeling it in is definitely worth the wait.
Maximize the experience with a deep sea fishing boat charter. By chartering a deep fishing boat, you’re practically guaranteeing yourself an experience that will be unforgettable. The fishing boat captain has years of experience in knowing where the best spots to fish are so you can increase the chances of snagging a catch. The guides also have firsthand experience with the best techniques to improve your fishing.

Reasons to Go Deep Sea Fishing

Have you been considering a deep sea fishing trip? If your goal is to do something out of the ordinary that will bring the family or your friends closer together, deep sea fishing is definitely the way to go. Let’s explore a couple of reasons why you should consider it.
The ocean itself. A typical vacation often involves dealing with long lines and crowded areas. The vast ocean is open to you, your loved ones, your friends, and it’s all about your group. You won’t be sharing the boat with any strangers.
Quality time. Speaking of loved ones, have you ever noticed how everyone often decides to go and do their own thing during a vacation? With a deep sea fishing trip, it’s all about togetherness, enjoying the company of those that are important to you while having lots of fun and catching some big game fish.
Catch your food. Are you a pescetarian or someone that likes the taste of seafood? There is a possibility of catching fish you can actually eat and perhaps even take home. There is a certain sense of pride and satisfaction in knowing that the food you’re consuming also happens to be one that you caught yourself.

Preparing for Your Deep Sea Fishing Trip

So you’ve booked your first deep sea fishing trip and you’re excited to try this one of a kind experience. While it is indeed a lot of fun, it also requires a bit of preparation to maximize your enjoyment.
For starters, it’s important to get some restful shut-eye the night before you venture off into the seas of South Florida. Between the waves of the ocean and the sound of the fishing boat engine, failing to get a good night’s sleep could mean you’ll doze off during the trip. While there is little chance of dozing off when you’re in the middle of reeling in a large catch, you still want to stay awake in case any sea dwellers pass by the boat when you aren’t fishing.
Speaking of the waves of the ocean, you may wish to bring along something like the over the counter Dramamine just in case you’re the type who tends to get easily seasick or someone who has never been on a fishing trip. In fact, it may be a good idea to take some before you head off on the trip so that it takes effect while you’re on the boat. Even if you’ve never had an issue with seasickness, it’s worth having some on hand.

How Does Freshwater and Deep Sea Fishing Differ?

There is the fishing you typically see on a quiet body of water and then there is deep sea fishing which is a completely different experience. If you’ve tried freshwater fishing but haven’t gone deep sea fishing, you’re missing out on a major thrill!
One of the biggest differences with deep sea fishing is the fish you’ll catch. With deep sea fishing, you can look forward to catching some major sea dwellers, such as the marlin for sailfish or even the marlin. Going toe-to-toe trying to reel in these fish is definitely a stark contrast from the smaller fish varieties found in fresh water.
For those of you planning on going deep sea fishing, your best bet is to schedule a chartered trip. These trips have plenty of perks and allow you to fish in spots where fish activity is the best. Plus, you’ll have a boat and every person in your party that’s participating will have their gear and necessary equipment to start reeling in a major catch. There is no need to worry about making sure you have everything you need as it’s already provided for you, including the fishing licenses.

Helping Those Affected by Hurricane Florence

Hurricane Florence has come and gone, leaving behind a series of floods, taking more than fifteen lives, and displacing numerous people that have to be rescued from their home or their vehicles. As is the case during any major disaster, this is a time for the nation to come together and do what they can to help the victims and those that are dealing with Hurricane Florence’s aftermath.
One of the easiest ways to make a difference is by donating to charitable organizations that are working tirelessly to assist where possible, such as the American Red Cross, for example. THERAPY-IV is proud to have donated and encourages its readers and customers to do the same. Thanks to donations, over 10,000 people have been able to go to community shelters and well over 150,000 meals have been served.
If you wish to donate to the American Red Cross and contribute towards recovery efforts, please click here. To those of you in North Carolina, stay strong.

The Day of 9/11

On September 11, 2001, the United States of America was attacked by terrorists. They hijacked four planes two of which crashed into the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center in New York City. Another plane crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia and the last plane crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Passengers on the plane fought the terrorists trying to prevent the planes from crashing. Around 3,000 people were killed that day and many more trying to save the people trapped in the buildings.
There were nineteen terrorists in the four planes that day, all of whom were from the Middle East. The name of the terrorist group was Al Qaeda led by Osama bin Laden.
After the devastating attack on the U.S., the United States and its allies went to war in Afghanistan. The Taliban were protecting Osama bin Laden and since 2001 many members of Al Qaeda have been captured or killed. On May 1, 2011, Osama bin Laden was killed in Pakistan.
The country went through some changes after the attack, they tightened security at airports, in public buildings, and the Department of Homeland Security was created to help protect the nation from terrorism.

The Unique Qualities of the Hammerhead

In terms of looks, the hammerhead shark is definitely one of those sea dwellers you can easily make out among the ocean’s vast assortment of life, largely because of its uniquely-shaped head, which is officially called a “cephalofoil”. Hammerheads can be found swimming in the seas in various parts of the world where warm water exists.
The size of a hammerhead shark typically varies from as small as three feet in length or just over nineteen feet. The shark’s belly is white, which mean the shark is harder to detect when viewed from the bottom. This trait provides the hammerhead an advantage when hunting prey. In regards to prey, hammerhead sharks generally stick to swimming about in large schools during the daylight hours. It isn’t until night falls that it decides to break from the school and embark on a solo hunting trip. Octopus, stingrays, other sharks, and squid are a few examples of the type of sea life the hammerhead likes to incorporate into its diet.
The hammerhead’s cephalofoil provides some distinct visual enhancements. Because of the location of the eyes, the hammerhead has the ability to view what is above and below it at all times. The cephalofoil also serves a useful purpose in helping the hammerhead pin down prey such as stingrays.

Remembering John McCain

The country continues to mourn the loss of Senator John McCain who passed away last Saturday at the age of 81 after suffering from brain cancer. The American politician and former military officer served as a Navy fighter pilot during the Vietnam War. He was held as a prisoner for five years before being released in 1973. McCain ran for president in 2008 as the Republican candidate against Democrat Barack Obama who would go on to win the election.
Born at Coco Solo Naval Air Station on August 29, 1936, John Sidney McCain III was the second of three children born to John S. McCain Jr. and his wife Roberta. When McCain was born, the family was stationed at the American controlled Panama Canal Zone. With a naval officer father as well as a four-star admiral paternal grandfather, John McCain would go on to follow in their footsteps, volunteering for combat duty during the Vietnam War.
It wasn’t until the late 1970s that John McCain became involved in politics after being assigned as the Navy’s liaison to the United States Senate. By the early 1980s, he retired from the Navy and was elected to political office, winning a House of Representatives seat. In 1986, McCain was elected to the U.S. Senate. Despite his conservative views, McCain would develop a reputation for being unafraid to challenge Republican orthodoxy.
John McCain had seven children, including author and The View co-host Meghan McCain.

Own a Classic Piece of Miami Beach

Does the thought of owning a piece of Miami Beach sound appealing to you? Earlier this week, the city recently put up six of its easily recognizable lifeguard stations for auction. In previous years, these stations have fetched prices as low as $100 or as much as $3,000+.
If you’ve spent a significant amount of time in Miami Beach, the iconic look of the lifeguard station dating back to the 1980s will be quite familiar. The stations include the stairs plus the small deck. If you have the space for it, they certainly make for an interesting piece of eye-catching art that is sure to turn into a conversation piece. You can also get creative about what you wish to do them. Turn them into a bar, make a sprawling dog house or perhaps a tree house for the kids.
So, why is Miami Beach auctioning off its iconic stations? It’s to make room for newer ones that will be better equipped to handle the elements. These stations will have improved weather resistance thanks to the use of aluminum hardware and they will also include impact windows.
If you’re interested in owning a lifeguard station, visit www.publicsurplus.com before the 28th and search for “City of Miami Beach” sans quotes. Do keep in mind that you will be responsible for picking up and transporting the station(s) to their new home.

Rest and Relaxation

Have you ever been stressed and needed to relax? You should try fishing,It's fun and helps with your health. When you go fishing you go away from all the worries in life. Whether it be on land or by boat, you breathe in cool and clean air while enjoying the scenery of the outdoor life. There is nothing better than the feeling you get of a cool breeze passing over you while taking a nap as you're waiting for a tug on your line ready for your first catch.
Then there is the sound of the water that has a relaxing effect to it. It’s like the ocean noise that babies listen to right before going to bed so they can go to sleep. That's the sound you hear when you're out there fishing, getting away from it all. Nothing is better than taking a nap at the sound of a wave.
Lets not forget the importance of a friend when you go fishing. Who doesn't enjoy the company of someone you care about while swapping stories about life as you wait on fish to bite. However, there are some that love to sit alone and enjoy the peace and quiet that comes from the serene waters. While enjoying the company of a friend, their presence may keep you calm and relaxed while you talk about anything and everything.
