Miami Beach’s Seafood Hotspots

Whether you’re a longtime Miami Beach resident or a snowbird looking to escape the frigid winter, the barrier island is a great spot to try some great seafood. With new spots popping up seemingly on a daily basis, there are a few recommendations worth considering.
No seafood list would be complete without mentioning classic Joe’s Stone Crab which is currently in its 104th season. The Miami Beach mainstay remains a popular fixture in the South Beach area and retains strong appeal among athletes, actors, and politicians.
Sunset Harbour recently welcomed Sunny Poke, known for its morning granola bowls and traditional poke in the afternoon. The man behind it is the same person responsible for Juvia, another popular Miami Beach eatery.
Last May, Estiatorio Milos made its grand debut in South Beach. With its heavy use of elegant marble, white linens, and blue-tiled kitchen, the décor of the restaurant nearly gives the deliciously fresh seafood a run for its money.

Sixty Years of the Daytona 500

One of the most popular, important, and prestigious motor races in the country, the Daytona 500 is an integral race in the NASCAR calendar, known for carrying the largest purse. Also known as "The Great American Race" or the “Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing”, the race is held in Daytona Beach, Florida, a tradition that’s been going on since 1959 when it was called Inaugural 500 Mile International Sweepstakes. The winner of the race receives the Harley J. Earl Trophy in Victory Lane, and the winning car is showcased in its race-winning condition for a year at Daytona 500 Experience museum.
This year’s Daytona 500 will be held on Sunday, February 18, which also happens to be the race’s 60th anniversary. Besides the race, American country band Rascal Flatts will perform during the pre-race show. You can learn more about the entire Speedweeks schedule by visiting the Daytona 500 website. Speedweeks is the collective name for the series of racing events that take place during January and February at the Daytona International Speedway, which culminates with the Daytona 500 race.

The Pegasus World Cup Returns

It’s not quite on the level of the Kentucky Derby just yet, but the Pegasus World Cup Invitational is quickly becoming just as popular. The American Thoroughbred horse race is a newcomer, holding its first race last year at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida. With a handsome purse of $12 million, it managed to outdo none other than the Dubai World Cup as the world’s richest horse race.
The Pegasus World Cup is open to horses that are at least four years old and the race involves running over the dirt for a distance about 1 1⁄8 miles. Each horse must carry a total of 124 pounds, with fillies and mares receiving a three-pound allowance. As for the name of the race, it comes from the mythical winged horse popular in Greek mythology.
This year’s Pegasus World Cup is being held this Saturday, January 27th. The purse has been upped to $16 million and the race will include twelve horses with names like Fear the Cowboy, Seeking the Soul, War Story, and Toast of New York.

Art Deco Weekend Suggestions

Tomorrow, Miami Beach will welcome the 41st annual Art Deco Weekend. The free, open-air event takes place throughout the entire weekend and is known for drawing hundreds of thousands of people to Ocean Drive looking to enjoy one of the many guided tours, shows, and the great music. In fact, there are so many different events going on, we’re providing some suggestions to make your options less overwhelming.
On Sunday, the Bark Deco Dog Show returns for the third time at the Art Deco Welcome Center. As its name implies, it’s a show of sorts for South Florida’s finest four-legged friends. The show includes a “waggiest” tail competition to which pooch has the better costume and which one is the “most Miami”. Pet adoption services will also be there in case you want to welcome a new member of the family to your home. The show begins at 1 pm.
Those who have a preference for classic cars will find plenty of social media share-worthy vehicles dating back to the 1900s at Art Deco Weekend’s Classic Car Show. The show begins at 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday at Ocean Drive and 5th Street.
Do you have a fondness for the “Roaring 20s”? If so, check out The 2nd Annual Jazz Age at Art Deco VIP taking place at Lummus Park. You’re more than welcome to dress in 1920s outfits while jiving to live jazz music.
