The MacArthur Causeway can become highly congested, particularly during the afternoon rush hour or during certain times of the year such as spring break when hundreds of beachgoers flock to the barrier island. In an effort to try and tackle this congestion, Miami is currently working on plans for an express trolley route that would connect the downtown area to South Beach.
The express trolley would run between Bayside Marketplace and the Miami Beach Marina. Though plans for the proposed route have been mapped out, the question of financing the project still lingers. The project could, however, prove effective. The existing trolleys currently run by various cities in Miami-Dade County including Miami Beach have seen sharp increases.
While this proposed trolley would focus on the MacArthur Causeway, the Julia Tuttle Causeway isn’t being ignored, either. Miami Beach and its neighbor are working together on a plan involving a county express bus aimed at shuttling hospitality employees from Miami to their Miami Beach jobs.
