Work on Your Summer Miami Beach Bod

Having a summer beach bod is nice, but it’s important to stay active and healthy not just during the summer. With its tourism appeal and so many locals looking to stay in shape, there are plenty of spots to stay in shape. Let’s explore some recommendations.
For those of you that are anywhere near the Bayshore neighborhood, Anatomy on 20th Street serves as a gym as well as a medical spa. It also holds the distinction of being the highest rated Miami Beach fitness facility on the popular website Yelp. Besides fitness equipment, there are also group exercise classes, thermotherapy, and personal training.
South Beach’s Equinox is another highly rated favorite. It has a sports club, a gym, cycling studio, yoga, Pilates, and much more. Besides the breadth of features, Equinox also has the advantage of being within walking distance of the sunny beach. Enjoy a hearty workout and then cool off in the ocean!
Also in South Beach is Exhale on Collins Avenue, which has several positive reviews. The facility aims to create a balance between the mind and body by offering full body fitness classes plus massages, acupuncture, and even facials.

Lobster Season Is About to Commence

Starting getting your lobster gear ready, ladies and gentlemen! On the 25th, divers and fellow lobster aficionados will be taking a splash in the water to participate in South Florida’s annual two-lobster mini-season. The event begins at the stroke of midnight and will continue until midnight on the 26th, followed by the regular recreational and commercial season which kicks off August 6th.
Florida is home to a trio of lobster varieties, but most fishermen tend to go for the Florida spiny lobster, which also goes by the name of the Caribbean spiny lobster. This lobster is typically found in the Atlantic Ocean’s tropical and subtropical waters as well as in the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. It is generally caught during the evening as lobsters prefer to spend the daylight hours in the protection of their dens as a means of avoiding predators.
There are a few rules to be aware of if you’re planning on participating in the two-day sport lobster season. For example, their carapace must meet a certain minimum length and it is prohibited to take any females that are bearing eggs. You can read all of the rules at the following link: http://myfwc.com/fishing/saltwater/recreational/lobster/.

Relive the Thrill of ‘Jaws’ on the Water

Back in 1975, a young man in his late twenties would go on to direct a movie that would singlehandedly scare tons of people from ever going back into the ocean. That director is Steven Spielberg and the film was titled Jaws. Based on the novel of the same name released a year prior, Jaws told the story of a massive great white shark terrorizing a local resort town.
Jaws went on to become the then highest grossing film of all time and is considered one of the greatest films ever made. While it may seem tame by today’s standards, the film cemented its place in history as one of the greatest films ever made and it was even selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. Tons of people remember the iconically terrifying opening scene.
If you have yet to see Jaws or are a fan of the film, you’ll be able to watch it on the water on the 28 and 29th of this month at Oleta River State Park in North Miami Beach. The film will be shown on a large inflatable screen and you’ll be able to watch it on an inflatable tube or on the beach in case you want to stay dry. Admission is only $15.

Help Make a Difference at the Miami Physicians Fishing Tournament

Fishing is already a great way to pass the time, but fishing for a cause is even better. In the Miami Physicians Fishing Tournament, you’ll get to fish for interesting fish in the Florida Keys while helping vulnerable teens and children. Money from the fishing tournament goes to the Miami Bridge, which is Miami Dade’s only 24-hour emergency shelter for kids ages 10-17.
The Miami Physicians Fishing Tournament is the oldest fishing tournament in South Florida, and it helps bring together physicians, leaders, and professionals across South Florida for a weekend of fun and fish. You don’t have to be a physician to fish, however. There will be over 300 guests showing up too. This year, the event is being hosted at the Ocean Reef Club at Key Largo, from Thursday, July 19th to Sunday, July 22.
The tournament will definitely be a fun time, and it will also be for a great cause. The Miami Bridge tries to help kids who are susceptible to falling into a life of crime and victimization. The Bridge offers lots of free services like sheltering kids, family counseling and reunifying families. They’ve helped over 600 kids since 1985.
Head over to the Miami Physicians Fishing Tournament for a great weekend and a chance to help kids.

Eat Healthy in Miami Beach

With so many places to eat during the summer, you may be tempted to cheat on the diet you’ve worked so hard on to achieve your beach body. Thankfully, Miami Beach has several places where you can eat healthy.
PLNTHOUSE is among the latest additions to the stylish 1 Hotel & Residences on Collins Avenue. Launched by celebrity chef Matthew Kenney, the plant-based cafe may be a great choice for those that lead a vegan lifestyle and prefer their food gluten-free. Besides dishes like chickpea curry, customers can also look forward to items such as smoothies with reishi mushrooms. You’ll also have the option of renting a luxurious poolside cabana while you sip on shots of turmeric and ginger.
The Icebox Cafe on Purdy Avenue is part of the Sunset Harbour neighborhood and its ambiance is definitely a refreshing change of pace. Dine on dishes such as a vegan burger and cauliflower buffalo wings while you relax in a cool-casual environment featuring leather couches. You’re bound to see an eclectic mix of locals and people either getting ready to attend or just coming from a yoga session.

Miami’s Fourth of July Festivities

The Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still celebrate the Independence Day festivities. As you might expect, Miami will be hosting plenty of events themed around America’s big day.
We’ll begin with the Fire on the Fourth festival right here in Miami Beach. The festivities begin bright and early at 9 am with complimentary yoga before transitioning into a celebratory atmosphere of live music, food trucks, and plenty of fireworks. Make sure to get there early and find a nice spot!
If 9 am sounds too early, Star-Spangled Awesome at the Wharf begins at noon by the Miami River. Music will be provided courtesy of a DJ and you can also look forward to bites by local names like Garcia’s Seafood, Spris Pizza, Mojo Donuts, and more. Purchase a whiskey shot and you’ll receive a complimentary beer you can hold onto while you sip and watch the fireworks after sundown.
One of the most impressive fireworks displays will likely be in Bayfront Park during America’s Birthday Bash celebration. Food, music, activities the kids can enjoy, and a beer garden are all part of the fun.
