Remembering John McCain

The country continues to mourn the loss of Senator John McCain who passed away last Saturday at the age of 81 after suffering from brain cancer. The American politician and former military officer served as a Navy fighter pilot during the Vietnam War. He was held as a prisoner for five years before being released in 1973. McCain ran for president in 2008 as the Republican candidate against Democrat Barack Obama who would go on to win the election.
Born at Coco Solo Naval Air Station on August 29, 1936, John Sidney McCain III was the second of three children born to John S. McCain Jr. and his wife Roberta. When McCain was born, the family was stationed at the American controlled Panama Canal Zone. With a naval officer father as well as a four-star admiral paternal grandfather, John McCain would go on to follow in their footsteps, volunteering for combat duty during the Vietnam War.
It wasn’t until the late 1970s that John McCain became involved in politics after being assigned as the Navy’s liaison to the United States Senate. By the early 1980s, he retired from the Navy and was elected to political office, winning a House of Representatives seat. In 1986, McCain was elected to the U.S. Senate. Despite his conservative views, McCain would develop a reputation for being unafraid to challenge Republican orthodoxy.
John McCain had seven children, including author and The View co-host Meghan McCain.

Own a Classic Piece of Miami Beach

Does the thought of owning a piece of Miami Beach sound appealing to you? Earlier this week, the city recently put up six of its easily recognizable lifeguard stations for auction. In previous years, these stations have fetched prices as low as $100 or as much as $3,000+.
If you’ve spent a significant amount of time in Miami Beach, the iconic look of the lifeguard station dating back to the 1980s will be quite familiar. The stations include the stairs plus the small deck. If you have the space for it, they certainly make for an interesting piece of eye-catching art that is sure to turn into a conversation piece. You can also get creative about what you wish to do them. Turn them into a bar, make a sprawling dog house or perhaps a tree house for the kids.
So, why is Miami Beach auctioning off its iconic stations? It’s to make room for newer ones that will be better equipped to handle the elements. These stations will have improved weather resistance thanks to the use of aluminum hardware and they will also include impact windows.
If you’re interested in owning a lifeguard station, visit www.publicsurplus.com before the 28th and search for “City of Miami Beach” sans quotes. Do keep in mind that you will be responsible for picking up and transporting the station(s) to their new home.

Rest and Relaxation

Have you ever been stressed and needed to relax? You should try fishing,It's fun and helps with your health. When you go fishing you go away from all the worries in life. Whether it be on land or by boat, you breathe in cool and clean air while enjoying the scenery of the outdoor life. There is nothing better than the feeling you get of a cool breeze passing over you while taking a nap as you're waiting for a tug on your line ready for your first catch.
Then there is the sound of the water that has a relaxing effect to it. It’s like the ocean noise that babies listen to right before going to bed so they can go to sleep. That's the sound you hear when you're out there fishing, getting away from it all. Nothing is better than taking a nap at the sound of a wave.
Lets not forget the importance of a friend when you go fishing. Who doesn't enjoy the company of someone you care about while swapping stories about life as you wait on fish to bite. However, there are some that love to sit alone and enjoy the peace and quiet that comes from the serene waters. While enjoying the company of a friend, their presence may keep you calm and relaxed while you talk about anything and everything.

The Sharks to Fish for in Miami

If you’ve ever wanted to catch a shark, then you should know which sharks live around Miami. There are multiple different kinds, but all of them are hard to fish for and are often highly prized. Make sure you know your shark breeds before you go out to catch one. And be careful, too!
Blacktip sharks are often found in the Gulf Stream offshore of Miami and Miami Beach. They can also be found in shallower waters. These sharks put up a big fight, so be prepared. This shark fights hard when it gets hooked, and if they’re near the surface, they’ll jump and spin out of the water. The sight is extraordinary.
Mako sharks are also found offshore near the Gulf Stream. They’re not common in South Florida, and people often end up catching them when they meant to catch other sharks. They’re also big fighters, and people consider them beautiful trophy fish. Amazingly, they can grow much larger than 500 pounds.
The hammerhead shark is a very recognizable shark, thanks to the unique shape of its head. They can be found over coral reefs and deep in the Gulf Stream. Generally, smaller hammerheads are caught in the summer and larger ones are caught in the winter and spring. Their weight usually ranges from 50 pounds to 250 pounds, but they can grow much bigger than that. The biggest hammerhead ever caught on the Therapy IV weighed 1,024 pounds.
Shark fishing can be an exhilarating experience. If you come out of it successful, then you’ll have a great trophy fish and a wonderful story to tell.
