A Brief Introduction to the Blackfin Tuna

The blackfin tuna is frequently found across Florida in various areas, such as the Florida Keys and the northeastern bluewater ledges. There is a wealth of information about them, such as the fish’s preferred bait, which is comprised of names like ballyhoo and live sardines. Let’s explore some additional facts about this sea dweller.
Blackfin tuna, for starters, prefer to hang around waters where the temperature ranges from 71 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Although they tend to swim at depths of about 187 feet below the water surface, regular diving to depths of over 650 feet is common. Normally, during the daylight hours, blackfins stick to deeper depths, only ascending to shallower depths when dusk arrives. While there is no specific reason why blackfin tuna continues to display this activity, it may be that the fish prefers to find a spot it likes and remain there.
If you want to try and catch some blackfin tuna, book your THERAPY-IV fishing experience today.

Are You Going Deep Sea Fishing? Here’s What to Wear

South Florida isn’t known for its cool weather, but if you're heading out for a fishing charter in the morning, there is the rare chance the climate may be on the cool side. On the other hand, on the way to the docks, you may already notice how muggy it is. Since there is the possibility the weather may be unpredictable, it might be a good idea to dress in layers. Again, the weather will most likely remain warm during your Miami Beach fishing trip, but at least this way you can remove or add clothing depending on how you feel.
On particularly sunny days, protective headgear can help. In other words, consider wearing a hat. Besides sunburn, too much exposure to the rays of the sun on your head may lead to headaches or other heat-related issues. On that note, sunglasses are great for protecting your eyes from UV rays as well as the sometimes blinding reflections of the sun against the water.
Finally, don’t forget the sunscreen! It’s still possible to get burned even if the day is cloudy. A product with an SPF of at least 30 should be enough.

Proceeds generated will benefit the charitable organization Dogs2Dogtags, which dedicates itself to saving and training shelter dogs so they can be placed with veterans dealings with illnesses and disorders like anxiety and PTSD.

Honor the Brave This Veterans Day

This Monday, we’ll be observing Veterans Day, a federal holiday where we recognize the many brave individuals who have served in the United States Armed Forces. As in the past, several events will be held throughout the country as well as here in South Florida to honor the many veterans.
On Monday, the Miami Beach Veterans Day Parade and Demonstration will happen along Ocean Ocean Drive, extending from 5th to 13th Street. After the parade, a ceremony will be held as well as a picnic and a festival at Lummus Park featuring a demonstration by the All-Veterans Parachute Team. The Exhilaration of Barracuda Fishing

For a thrilling time out on the ocean, the barracuda is an aggressively vicious fish known for putting up a strong fight. If you can’t spend an entire day out on the ocean, these fish present a quicker albeit highly exhilarating fishing experience.
Barracudas prefer soft swimbaits. Hence, you want to make sure you have the right lure when you’re trying to catch one. Lures that look like wiggling tails are quite popular so it’s one place to start if you want to increase your odds of a catch.
You can also stick to tradition and go for plastic worms another barracuda favorite provided they’re firm. You may wish to go with orange or pink worms. Worms are also great in that there is less of a chance of spooking the fish and causing them to disperse.
An artificial tube lure is a do-it-yourself option worth considering. There are plenty of fishing enthusiasts that believe this lure works effectively. Barracudas are fond of colors like purple, pink and orange.

The Return of Joe’s Stone Crab

South Florida always has exciting seasons but one of them happens to be stone crab season. If you’ve spent any time in Miami Beach, there is arguably no better place to celebrate it than Joe’s Stone Crab. This classic Miami Beach icon will open its doors tomorrow to celebrate its 106th season at 5 pm sharp.

The name of Joe’s Stone Crab comes from Joe Weiss and it boasts a rich history going back to 1913. Weiss is from Hungary and lived in New York before moving to Miami Beach with the hopes of seeking some asthma relief. Joe and his wife would go on to open a shack selling seafood which they opened on Collins Avenue. Once an ichthyologist became aware of the many stone crabs in the area, he informed Joe Weiss, asking whether these stone crabs were edible.

Nowadays, Joe’s Stone Crab is well-known for the people it attracts, including actors, politicians, and athletes. Despite becoming one of Miami Beach’s most famous restaurants, it is still a family-owned and operated restaurant. One thing you should know is that the restaurant does not accept reservations. If you wish to dine there, it strongly encouraged that you arrive early or there will likely be a wait of several hours.

Preventing the Dreaded Seasickness

A day out on the water is a lot of fun but some people can easily succumb to the dreaded seasickness. When you’ve spent money booking a deep sea fishing trip, the last thing you want is to be that person bent over the bow of the ship vomiting into the sea, feeling miserable.
One of the easiest and proven ways to tackle the effects of seasickness is by taking an over the counter remedy called Dramamine. However, there is the possibility that is may cause you to feel drowsy, which is something you probably don’t want to happen when you’re busy trying to reel in a fierce sea dweller. Bonine is another option you can consider which is chewable, removing the need to have to swallow it which some people or children may find difficult.
Make sure to take the Dramamine or Bonine before the start of the deep sea fishing trip so it has time to take effect. See you on the water!

One of the World’s Best Bars Is in Miami Beach

After your deep sea fishing trip, you may decide to spend some more time in Miami Beach and grab a drink. With so many different bars to choose from, where should you go spend your money? If you want one of the best, you may wish to consider Sweet Liberty on 20th Street. This bar is the only one in the city to make the annual list of The World’s Best 50 Bars, which is determined by drink experts in various parts of the world.

Sweet Liberty includes drinks plus food. Its cocktails include the Negroni plus the amusingly named Basic Bitch comprised of Aylesbury Duck Vodka, St Germain, Prosecco strawberry and lemon. Deep Sea Fishing for Younger Crowd

Summer officially comes to an end next Monday, but the South Florida weather tends to remain sunny and agreeable throughout the year. That being said, it’s a great time to encourage the younger ones to stop looking at their phone and tablet screens and enjoy some outdoor time. Deep sea fishing is one way to do that.
For starters, a deep sea fishing is an enriching experience. If the child has never been on a boat, it’s a great way to introduce something new while also educating them on the numerous different species of fish. This also presents a way to show kids where the seafood bought at the store comes from.
Older children have a set routine which typically involves school, home, and perhaps some time with friends. However, with electronic devices, it can be easy to succumb to tunnel vision. A deep sea fishing trip presents a way to show the vastness of the sea and how big the world is. It may even pique their sense of exploration.
A successful catch can also serve as a great self-confidence booster. There is a great feeling of achievement and exhilaration after catching a tough sea dweller.

The Fishing Guide Makes all the Difference

Your deep sea fishing guide can play a major role in just how exciting and memorable your trip ends up being. Beginners can learn a lot from a good guide while seasoned pros can still learn a thing or two, particularly if they’re fishing in new water.
With beginners, it may seem overwhelming to get a good grasp on each aspect of deep sea fishing. There are lures, rods, different fish species, varying techniques. A good guide will break it down for you to be as succinct or thorough based on how much knowledge you’re looking to glean from your fishing trip.
Even if you consider yourself to be an experienced angler, Professionals, in some cases, require a fishing overview too – for a variety of factors. Besides getting a quick grasp on the unfamiliar waters, a guide can provide you and your fishing pals can also provide advice on the best locations to increase the odds of a catch, what handle to use, and they may even help you learn a trick or two to add to your fishing repertoire.

Oktoberfest in Miami Beach

Way back in the 1800s, Oktoberfest served as something of an extended wedding reception for Crown Prince Ludwig and his bride Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. Today, the festival is celebrated in numerous cities around the world, including Miami right here in South Florida.
Right here in Miami Beach, Abbey Brewing Company at 1115 16th Street will be observing Oktoberfest for the 24th time during its annual party. Expect to see plenty of craft plus traditional German beer varieties. You can also partake in the pig roast or one of the Jägermeister shot specials. The festivities begin at 1 pm on Sunday, September 29 and will stretch well into the morning until 5 am.
Also in Miami Beach, North Beach Bandshell will serve as the host of North Beach Oktoberfest. Expect plenty of live music courtesy of international acts like Germany's Vroni, the Pech and Schwefel Band from Austria, and lots more. Make sure to try some of the traditional Bavarian food as a complement to the drinks. The event begins at 2 pm until 11 pm on Saturday, September 28 and then resumes on Sunday from 1 pm to 10 pm. Best of all, there is no cost to attend.

A New Rail May Be in the Works

Have you ever wished there more ways to get to and from Miami Beach and the downtown area than the Julia Tuttle, MacArthur, and the Venetian? If so, you may be interested in a new form of transportation being evaluated today by the Miami Dade County Commission.
A proposal dubbed the Beach Connector is being evaluated which would consist of a rail connecting downtown and Miami Beach. The project has been floating around in some form for more than two decades but has yet to be approved. As tourism continues to break records and younger generations rely less on driving, another way to get around from South Florida’s ultra popular barrier island could prove useful in easing Florida’s traffic infrastructure. Furthermore, it could go a tremendously long way in easing the woes many locals and tourists face when trying to find parking on the beach, which is easier said than done on weekends and holidays.
There is still a long way to go before the Beach Connector will clear all of the hurdles necessary for it to become reality. Do you think it would ease the connection between Miami and the beach?

Better Fishing with Polarized Sunglasses

During a deep sea fishing trip, your eyes need protection from the blinding rays of the sun. The glare from the rays as they reflect off of the surface of the water can damage your vision or make it harder to spot fish and reel them in.
When you’re figuring out which sunglasses are ideal for you you may wish to consider what kind of fish you intend to catch, such as grouper or mackerel, for instance. Also, take the time to check out the color of the lens and the lens material. With polarized sunglasses, for example, they feature a special layer that can block the majority of refracted sunlight. With these lenses, rays reflecting off of the surface of the water won’t cause massive glare as you’re looking into the ocean to spot a catch or admiring the natural vistas. Blue lenses are a safe bet for deep sea fishing. A blue outer lens color combined with an inner gray lens will suit most anglers. The lens mirroring takes care of the glare.
Speaking of fishing sunglasses, resist the urge to buy them online. Polarized sunglasses have to be comfortable and fit the face correctly. You don’t want glare leaking into your field of view, which defeats the purpose of having bought polarized glasses. The better the sunglasses accommodate the face, the better your vision will be. As a result, you may find it’s not as difficult to tackle big game fish.

A Brief Glimpse into Biscayne Bay

When you want to enjoy some inshore fishing, Biscayne Bay in Miami is worthy of your time. Complemented by the glitz and glam of Miami and Miami Beach, this gorgeous bay provides world-class fishing and has been doing so for decades.
Biscayne Bay runs from North Miami all the way to Key Largo and is comprised of nearly 430 square miles of water, close to the size of the city of San Antonio! More than 250 acres of the bay is protected by the Biscayne National Park, which was established back in the 1980s.
Even as South Florida undergoes changes and evolves, Biscayne Bay is home to many different gamefish that have earned a degree of popularity, including bonefish, tarpon, snapper, mackerel, sharks and even some grouper here and there. Because of the richly broad array of fish, anglers may find it tricky to concentrate their efforts on a certain species.
Ready to explore Biscayne Bay? Book your fishing boat trip on the THERAPY-IV today.

Mother Nature’s Effect on Fishing

When it comes to advice, fishing is one of those topics where everyone is ready and willing to provide an exhaustive amount of advice. Whether it’s what you should be wearing, where the best spots to fish are, information regarding fishing is aplenty. For this blog, we’re going to take a closer look at the weather.

Let’s use something like the wind, for instance. The wind will push water and surface food away from the shore, depending on the strength. Certain fish types like baitfish will swim along with the movement of the food, which means it may be harder to catch the fish due to the windy conditions and the bait not staying “staying still”.

Fish are highly sensitive to the smallest changes in the weather. You may notice them feeding voraciously a few hours prior to the arrival of a cold front. The feeding will in most cases slow down once a storm has come and gone. After a cold front, fish activity may be low.

The idea of getting drenched may not sound appealing but fishing during the rain can reap great rewards. The rain assists with breaking up the view that the fish have through the surface of the water, which means potentially greater odds of a catch.

Fishing Law Aims to Protect Sharks

Fun fact: Did you know that there are over 500 different species of shark around the world? A number of these species have laws in place intended to protect them, which means anyone fishing for them is required to release them back into the ocean if caught. Here in Florida, the state is also looking to ramp up its efforts to protect these sea dwellers with a recent law implemented last month.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) must grant shore anglers a special permit, which includes becoming familiar with the shark’s habits and learning more about it via an online shark-fishing education course. The law is intended as much to protect the sharks as it is to protect humans. It prohibits anglers from bringing the sharks near the shore, requiring them to release the shark immediately after catching.
Though the FWC shark law is aimed largely at shore fishing, it also includes restrictions for those planning on fishing from bridges, piers, or jetties. Young anglers below the age of sixteen do not have to receive a permit, but they are still required to take the education course or be accompanied by an adult who already has the shore-based license.
