Are you someone that enjoys shark fishing? If so, you may or may not have heard the news late last year regarding shark fishing. For those of you that use chum to draw the attention of sharks, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is placing some potential restrictions.
In an effort to reduce what’s called “blue collar” angling, shark fishers will notice chumming restrictions as well as new requirements mandating that people who go casting for sharks each year must obtain a permit that can be obtained via an online educational program. This permit would not be required for people below the age of sixteen or over the age of 65.
The new changes and requirements are a way to find a halfway point for people that use state waters as well as anglers. It is also intended to assist the commission with obtaining more information regarding the number of people that participate in land-based shark fishing.
