Did you notice an extra number of people biking through South Florida this past weekend? You may have caught a glimpse of the fifty veterans participating in the Wounded Warriors ride. This four-day ride is spearheaded by the Wounded Warriors Project, a charity that provides various events, programs, and services to veterans ever since the events of September 11, 2001. The organization has assisted over 70,000 people.
Last week, the riders gathered to be outfitted with their cycling gear that takes into account their injuries so that the ride remains as comfortable as it possibly can be. These veterans are men and women from all around the world. One participant, for example, served for more than five years before an injury she sustained required amputating her lower leg. Rides like this one go a long way in helping these veterans enjoy a lifestyle that’s as close to normal as possible while also reminding them they are doing the best they can regardless of the circumstances.
The Wounded Warriors ride began right here in Miami Beach and will continue until the riders make it all the way to Key West.
