After Fishing, Go for Some Miami Ice Cream

Have you made any summer plans yet? Perhaps you’re thinking of ways to complement your cool deep sea fishing experience on the THERAPY-IV. If you plan on spending any time in the barrier island and are looking for other ways to stay cool in South Florida, consider exploring some of the Miami ice cream shops that offer a great for the whole family, much like a deep sea fishing trip.
We’ll begin with two spots just west of Miami Beach. MadLab Creamery on 39th Street has become known for its one of a kind ice creams that use toppings such as edible glitter, Japanese cheesecake, and more. The setting is ideal for sharing on social media.
Just north of MadLab Creamery on 41st Street is Aubi & Ramsa which offers something a little more adult-oriented. Try the Kentucky crème brulee infused with bourbon or perhaps the chocolate Aztec with Del Maguey Vida mezcal.
Unlike most ice cream places, Lulu’s Nitrogen Ice Cream in the Edgewater neighborhood makes its ice cream on the spot. Choose your flavor, your mix-ins, and then marvel as the ice cream is created right before your eyes courtesy of a little liquid nitrogen.

Set Sail for Miami’s New Reef

Are you eager to do any fishing in Key Biscayne any time soon? Avid anglers in South Florida will now have another option to choose from the next time they may be passing through the waters of Biscayne Bay. Miami-Dade County and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission have joined forces to reveal a new artificial reef made from more than 130 tons of limerock boulders and clean concrete.
Dubbed Bug Light Shoal, this all-new reef will assist with providing access and opportunities for anglers to catch bait before they venture off into offshore waters. If the name of the reef happens to sound somewhat familiar, it was the nickname given to Biscayne Bay’s decommissioned navigational marker which, for decades, was a haven for bait fish.
To reach Bug Light Shoal, you’ll need to head about 2.4 nautical miles east northeast of the Cape Florida Lighthouse towards a depth of 22 feet. The lighthouse is part of Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park.

Indulge Your Inner Foodie This Week

The South Florida weather hasn’t been the most ideal to be outdoors the past couple of days, so why not spend it indoors? Several different food-related events are happening where you can have some fun and enjoy a great bite.
On Wednesday, the Miami Design District’s MC Kitchen is hosting its Spritz Social. The establishment is joining forces with Aperol to kick off an extended happy hour where patrons can enjoy drinks and bites for just $7. MC Kitchen is located at 4141 NE 2nd Avenue.
Also happening on Wednesday is the All You Can Eat Fried Chicken at Ms. Cheezious in the MiMo area. The eatery is teaming with Chef Kurtis Jantz for some great food plus beer and as many sides as you can consume. The cost is $30 per person and it’s happening every Wednesday until the end of the month.
On Friday, popular hangout Sweet Liberty in Miami Beach is kicking off its secret burger for just one night. The burger won’t be featured on the menu and it will only be available for pre-order. The event is $18 per person.

Tarpon Fishing in Miami

Among the many sea dwellers that prove to be a challenge, the tarpon is certainly among them. In fact, anglers can spend their entire lives perfecting their tarpon fishing technique due to the fish’s unpredictability and stubbornness.
Tarpon is known for its aerial acrobatics, but if you want to see it in action then it’s important to know when and where to look. Here in Miami, the fish is most active during the months of January through May, and they start to dwindle after July. Some spots where you may be able to catch them include Government Cut and Haulover Inlet.
Mullet and small crabs make for good tarpon bait, but runs of shrimp that often occur during the winter will certainly work. Tarpon feeds at all hours of the day, but if you’re intrepid enough to go fishing at night, the fish becomes less wary because it won’t be able to notice the fishing lines due to the darkness.
If you want to try catching tarpon, book your summer deep sea fishing trip on the THERAPY-IV today.
