Snapping Great Photos at Sea

Part of the deep sea fishing trip is taking pictures to remember the experience. After all, if you make a big catch, you’ll more than likely want to remember the exciting moment. With that in mind, there are some tips to know when you want to snap some pictures at sea.
It may cover the eyes, but you may wish to wear sunglasses when taking pictures. On particularly sunny days in South Florida, the sun can be borderline blinding, especially when it reflects off of the sea. The last thing you want is a bunch of people squinting in your pictures because the sun is too bright. On top of that, sunglasses will protect your eyes from damaging UV rays.
Take the sun’s position into account when snapping your photos. With your back to the sun, it will naturally illuminate a subject. Just make sure that the sun isn’t pointing directly into the camera lens as this may cause a person to appear washed out or too dark.
If you do snag a big fish, what you want to do is provide a visual representation of how large it is. There are different ways you can go about this. Using a tape measure when taking the picture is an option or you could use an object that will show the size difference.

Super Bowl Events in Miami

If you don’t already have tickets to Super Bowl LIV, you may have to enjoy yourself at one of the many events happening around the same time. Earlier this month, we told you about a few of these events, and today we’re going to share a couple more you may not be aware of.
Super Bowl LIVE presented by Verizon kicks off this Saturday at Bayfront Park and will continue until the day before the Super Bowl (February 1st). It’s one of the few free events you can attend and it will include live music, dance performances, chef demonstrations, water shows, and of course, plenty of tailgating.
Retired basketball player and former Miami Heat member Shaquille O’Neal is another name that has become synonymous with South Florida. On January 31st, he’s throwing his massive, circus-like Shaq’s Fun House party that includes everything from food and an open bar to rides and more. Mr. 305 himself Pitbull is among the names expected to make an appearance.

The Super Fast Sailfish

Historically, the weeks near the Super Bowl and those that follow shortly after it are the best times to catch a South Florida sailfish. The official state saltwater fish in Florida can be so abundant this time of year, you don't have a sailfish fishing pro to snag a couple of them.
Viewed by scientists as the ocean’s fastest fish, the sailfish is known for its gray and blue color and its dorsal fin called a sail that also gives the fish its name. The fish experiences a surprisingly quick growth spurt, reaching a length of nearly five feet in just one year. As for the sail, it remains in a folded down position while the fish swims and is only raised once the sailfish is about to attack its prey. The raised sail assists with keeping the sailfish’s bill mostly undetectable, making it easier to snag prey.
With a deep sea fishing charter, the sailfish is one of the many sea dwellers you may encounter on the South Florida seas. Contact us today to learn more.

All football fan eyes will be on Miami next month as it once again hosts the Super Bowl, in this case, Super Bowl LIV. Happening at Hard Rock Stadium with Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, several events are happening in Miami Beach around the same time.
Perhaps the most notable of these events is the highly anticipated Gronk Beach, hosted by retired football player and New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, also known simply as “Gronk”. Taking place on February 1st at North Beach Bandshell and the 73rd Street Sand Bowl, several notable names in electronic dance music will be making an appearance, including DJ, songwriter, and record producer Diplo plus many more.

The Popular Crevalle Jack

Among the many fish you may be likely to find in the Miami waters in January, the crevalle jack is among them. As part of the jack family, the fish goes by several different names including couvalli jack, yellow cavalli, black-tailed trevally, and more. It’s recognized by its fin colors and deep body, and it can grow to about nine inches in length, though this is rare.
The crevalle jack spends its time and inshore as well as offshore waters, typically near bays and lagoons, or over reefs. It is known for being a powerful predator, consuming small sea dwellers like shrimp, crabs, prawns, and more.
The fish remains a popular recreational catch, being attracted to cut and live bait plus artificial lures. Interestingly, however, if the crevalle jack happens to be in feeding mode, it will generally ignore any of these lures. When caught, it will make a “snorting” sound, somewhat similar to those made by pigs.
