As you may have read, the bad news for fans of anything art is that the highly awaited Art Basel event this year, scheduled for December 3rd through the 6th, has been canceled. Nevertheless, despite the troubling news, Miami Beach officials are working tirelessly to establish a compromise where some part of Art Week at least can still be celebrated safely.
While Art Basel during Art Week is the major event, local cultural institutions and the not quite as large satellite fairs also add to the festivities of all creative things. For instance, the smaller Reach and Untitled festivals are still scheduled to happen. There are also talks on how to devise a way for a local-only art happening where multiple locations can come together around the city. One initiative concerning a curated program aimed at showcasing public art is already moving forward in Miami Beach.
Art Basel is canceled in 2020 but fans may not be too surprised to hear that organizers are already setting their sights on the future and preparing the festival for 2021. There is also an online viewing room that highlights some of the art this year scheduled to launch on September 23rd.
