Florida Friends Make a Major Catch

Among the many reasons why deep sea fishing—or fishing in general—is such a thrilling or fun activity is the surprises. There’s a strong sense of wonder and accomplishment when you reel in a hefty sea dweller, and we sometimes like to highlight some of the biggest catches that have happened in South Florida.

For example, according to a recent WSVN article, a group of friends came incredibly close to breaking records when they ended up catching a swordfish weighing a whopping 769 pounds! The massive catch was no easy feat as the friends spent about five hours reeling it in. The swordfish was so powerful it even bit the pole itself!

Despite the swordfish’s impressively large size, it fell just short of breaking the 772 United States record for the biggest swordfish catch. The swordfish world record belongs to Chile, where fishermen managed to reel in one weighing close to a colossal 1,200 pounds.

Book your deep sea fishing trip today and try your hand at snagging a major catch!

The Speedy Sailfish Awaits

If we go by trends of the past, the ideal days to capture a South Florida sailfish are the weeks when the Super Bowl is approaching as well as those following the event. This time of year, the official state saltwater fish of Florida can be so popular, even those that are just getting started with sailfish fishing have good odds of snagging one.

The sailfish, generally deemed to be the fastest fish navigating the vast ocean, is recognized for its gray and blue color and its dorsal fin, appropriately referred to as a sail, which also gives its name to the fish. A remarkably fast growth spurt is undergone by the fish, extending a length of almost five feet in a single year. Regarding the sail, while the fish swims, it lies in a folded down state and is only lifted until the sailfish is about to strike its prey. The increased sail serves to keep the bill of the sailfish mostly unnoticed, which facilitates the sailfish’s ability to catch its prey.

The super fast sailfish is among the multitude of sea dwellers you may meet when sailing the waters of South Florida with a deep sea fishing charter. Contact us today for more information or to set up your deep sea fishing charter.

It’s Currently All Systems Go for the Stuart Boat Show

Next month’s Miami International Boat Show is no more and it remains to be seen whether the Palm Beach International Boat Show in March is going to happen. If you’re willing to make the drive, you may get your boat fix by heading to the 47th annual Stuart Boat Show, scheduled to take place January 15th through the 17th.

The planners behind the Stuart Boat Show have established protocols to keep visitors and exhibitors safe. The event arrives during an interesting time for the boating industry. Sales of new powerboats in the United States were up by more than ten percent last year. As for the Stuart Boat Show, social distancing will be in place, seminars are being nixed, there will be several hand sanitizer stations, and organizers are pushing for attendees to opt for online ticket purchases versus in-person.

Stuart Boat Show will take place at 54 and 290 N.W. Dixie Highway, just northwest of Old Roosevelt Bridge. Tickets for adults will be $15 and $8 for children ages 12 and under.

Snap Memorable Photographs at Sea

Another way to recall and reflect on a memorable deep sea fishing trip is by snapping photographs. After all, once you make a huge grab, chances are it’s a moment you’ll want to look back on the thrilling moment. There are some tricks to learn should you want to take some photographs at sea, a few of which we’ll look at here.

Sunglasses make sense when deep-sea fishing on a sunny day, but they’re also useful when it comes to picture taking. The rays of the sun can be especially bright, especially when reflecting off the water, on especially sunny days in South Florida. A bunch of smiling yet squinting faces in pictures is no fun. Sunglasses, on top of that, will shield the eyes from harmful UV light.

When snapping your pictures, take the sun's angle into account. It will light a topic automatically, with your back to the sun. Just make sure the sun does not look straight through the lens of the camera, as this will cause a person to look washed out or too dim.

What you want to do when you snag a big fish is to have a visual image of how huge it is. There are numerous ways that you can go about it. When taking the photograph, the use of a tape measure is an alternative or you could use an item that will display the height difference.
